Caziah Holmes is no longer on the PSU FB roster

I noticed tonight that running back Caziah Holmes is no longer on the PSU roster.

He was uniquely listed as a Jr / Fr as he played in '20, redshirted in '21, and was entering his third year on campus (Jr). Since PSU is now counting 2020 as a mulligan for eligibility, he was listed as a freshman in that category- a Jr/Fr.

In any case, he is no longer on the roster. A Google News search on his name showed nothing. He must have read the tea leaves and saw that he was not going to play much, if at all, in '22.

I noticed in the B1G video clip of PSU RBs @ the recent practice he was not with the group.

So 4 scholarship RB's on the roster plus Tank.

Will this result in another RB in the 2023 class? None of the 4 are out of eligibility after 2022 although Ford is in his 4th year at PSU and may opt to leave after 2022. There is always the portal to get another back in the off season, but with the top 3 likely returning for 2023 any incoming RB can't hope to get too many carries unless there would be a rash of injuries.

I figure that Lee thinks about leaving- at the very least. He may decide to return for one last year though. London Montgomery is verbally committed to PSU for '23 and if no one leaves then yes, there would be five scholarship backs in the room again next summer/fall.

If that’s the case and Holmes is gone then redshirting him last year when the offense was dying for a spark at RB was an epic fail on the staff.

Holmes would not have been a spark last year. There was a reason he redshirted. Not an epic fail.
Maybe but he was good enough to play as a true freshman. And we will agree to disagree on whether he could have been a spark or not.
But you might be right it wasn’t an epic fail but a fail.

Yep, if he had a better chance to provide a "spark" last year compared to the RB's that played he would not have been redshirted. He was redshirted in 2021 to work on his strength and provide an option at RB for 2022 and beyond, but he must have seen the writing on the wall that said he was likely to be the 5th RB this season and would be behind at least Singleton and Allen for the 2 years thereafter. Can't blame him for leaving but second guessing the way the coaches handled his time at PSU is just plain stupid.

The epic fail was recruiting two outstanding running backs who would make the 5th string back feel inadequate and transfer which subsequently gave birth to the dumbest post of the week.
I agree partly. I overreacted with epic fail but it was far from the dumbest post of the week. There was at least 1 yesterday that surpassed it and I won’t mention the “demise post” so it’s no better than 3rd dumbest.

Injuries. That's it.
that is correct which is why they were called redshirts in the first place. it was meant to help athletes losing seasons for injuries. The original intent of creating the 5 years to play for was to heal not roster management. Nebraska was noted as the early pioneer of using it for roster management, then everyone did it. adding the COVID year and giving everyone 4 free games put it on steroids.

I thought that Coziah Holmes was redshirted last year due to injury, and he started out playing and then announced RS, and then came back at the end of season and played a little bit I recall. He appeared to have some potential, but somehow did not translate. He was supposed to be the speed guy from the 2020 class. #26 did appear in the BIG video this week of PSU practice, so this is recent stuff.

How so. Did it ever occur to you that he was redshirted because he wasn’t better than the RBs that played last year. Do you stay up late at night thinking about more ways to make up things to criticize Franklin and his staff about. Geez.

also did it ever occur to you that there are these things called time zones?

Holmes had a video posted early of him juking a guy in a drill, similar to one Saquon had years ago. He seemed to be the #2 guy by the end of '20.

I think it was widely speculated on, but no answer given as far as the RS. I know he got in late vs the OOC 'cakes and was praised for scout team work thereafter. I think it was strictly roster management because he was apparently 5th behind Lee, Cain, Lovett, and Ford. Again, just my take.

His departure this far out from Purdue tells me that Singleton and Allen are going to be some combination of the 1/2/3. Highly expect the "Ford on kick return and special teams" stuff to be lip service to keep 4 scholarship RBs on the roster in case of a rash of injuries.

FSU had 3-100 yard rushers in Week 0. Not certain if this was about playing time or getting closer to home.
