You might get some more ratings watching these games set up as a tournament instead of one-off games, but you'd likely have some empty stadiums. Who is traveling for potentially four different post season bowl games just to be able to say they were arguably the 10th best team instead of somewhere between 10 and 24?So… Colorado would play South Carolina to end up against BYU and in the exact same game as they’re already playing in this year?
None of these are particularly more compelling than the existing bowl game matchups.
One way to solve the opt outs is a juicy payout for postseason play. That said, I don’t think NILs at the big boy schools arent going to care too much about non-CFP playoff postseason, games. Teams outside of the historical top 20programs would still have some interest in traditional bowls. We would probably still incentivize those games. Bama… not so much. With the transfer portal, any bowl game or NIT will be complete trash. Over half the rosters will opt out and be on recruiting trips looking for a new school instead of playing.
If we want more real games, we need to expand the playoffs.
I think they’d be much more compelling matchups than any of the bowls. Partly because teams would be playing for something instead of just an exhibition game. Problems would be getting the players to play that many games if they missed the playoffs. So… Colorado would play South Carolina to end up against BYU and in the exact same game as they’re already playing in this year?

Oh, it’$ for $ure going to 14 team$ $oon for the $ of cour$eOn a similar note, would not surprise me at all if they expand the existing playoff to 14 teams with two “play in” games (which would be the dumbest thing ever… so it’s probably a year or so away from happening)
