I'm not necessarily a chadwell apologist, but we have seen so many posts supporting him and that he should have been hired. People always cite the fact that he's never coached a big school. Watching Game Day this morning about the coach at Indiana reminds me a lot of the chadwell situation. You kind of wonder if he had a chance at a big school, would he have the same success he's had everywhere else. I realize this is coming off of a bad loss, but all coaches have those. Eventually is someone is going to take a chance on him, and I really hope it's not a team in the SEC East. I'd hate for us to find out first hand that we had the chance to go after somebody.

Any thoughts?

The Indiana coach basically explained that about half the team he inherited voluntarily left using the transfer portal when they realized the culture of the program was about to be changed. Sounds like those who transferred out preferred the status quo, where losing was OK. Many of the guys who took their places were experienced, 3rd year guys who wanted to help them win, and the guys who stayed "had a chip on their shoulder" and something to prove. Sounds like a winning formula, oddly enough!

The big school argument never makes sense. A good coach wins at any level if they have a system that scales. Everyone has to start somewhere right? Rarely does someone get their HC start at a “big school”. Chadwell has won at every level doing things never done at those schools, Cignetti is similar. Many of the Bama crowd getting restless with Debor but he’s another example of winning wherever he’s been. Maybe Bama will prove different for him but he will likely be fine. I liked the idea of hiring Chadwell. I hope Beamer works out, but at the time of making the hire if I am comparing those two then Chadwell is who you hire.

Two examples of many possible: Jim Tressel, Urban Meyer.

Chadwell will end up at Florida or MS State or somewhere and succeed. We missed that boat already. He is a winner. Bama will be fine. Just growing pains with the change. Hope we continue to improve and maybe make a bowl. That would far exceed my expectations.
