Do I have this straight?
A few Eastern European bros were arguing on a gaming Discord, and one of them, to prove he's an insider, just posts top secret classified US docs on the Russian war?

In a way, this is funny, but in a way, not very funny.

your post prompted me to look for updates on the story. What a world we live in. Rather ironic that in an effort to over classify everything the effort has ultimately had the opposite effect. Of course with intel potentially being altered this could also be some sort of disinformation campaign. Hard to believe anyone with that level of access would not understand the implications of what they were releasing. And the hubris of the gamer claiming they'll dump all the documents if anyone is arrested...if the NYT and AP can find you for a quote my bet is intell agencies can too. https://apnews.com/article/classifi...social-media-5fff130f2ca9581bc14514a4e29c7b64

I haven't been following closely as well; assume the document was leaked to said gamer bro and not the result of a hack, am I right? They will find the leak and it will be bad for that person. Really bad.

Well, we don't punish our own citizens for releasing top secret documents for political purposes so likely they thought they were safe to do the same.

Gotta say that I’m fascinated by this story.

Apparently US intelligence knows the “screen name “ of the leaker.

I’m sorta guessing that if US military / justice / intelligence wanted to know the real name of “pennstatel0” that they could get it pretty easily.

The identity of the leaker is out there in multiple news reports. I think the NY Times was the first to identify him in print, but I'm not certain of that.

When I read the outline of this case, I figured it would not be long before he/she was identified.

From what I've read, the FBI has the lead in the case, in conjunction with the Army Criminal Investigation Division. I'm sure other agencies were also involved, though I haven't read about their involvement.

I get all the anger and rage, but at what point do we start asking who's in charge of security, and what the **** are they doing? Maybe we should put a few of those a-holes on the wall while we're at it.

Which is the worse offense?

1) an immature 21 year old mishandling information he never should have had access to , or

2) an elderly fellow purposely misusing his government position and access to inside information to enrich himself and his family?

Having served in the military this is absolutely not a shock. Most of these kids get clearances because if they haven’t been arrested, don’t have significant debt, and say they never did drugs, they’re cleared. Like most massive organizations, the peons are the worker bees and they have access to everything. If you had a crap piece of gear and wanted something new to take to the field, you don’t go to the S4 - you go to the supply clerk who is your buddy who you now owe a favor to.

So he was simply trying to impress his online friends?? Hmmm...... Imagine if someone posted classified documents on the McA board just to impress us all with the degree of access they have. Seriously. I want that to happen.

The issue with #2 is that it is literally every politician everywhere and not limited to men, women, old, young, or party affiliation. Even the rich ones just look to get richer. And even Bernie Sanders.

If you belong to either major party, you're part of the problem.

Considering the times and post went out of their way to find him you have your answer.
