Giroux was drunk a couple of summers and one time when to far when a cop tried to detain him for dwi. Giroux was having a hard time dealing with being shun by Team Canada fir the Olympics and a couple of international series. He started drinking heavily during those summers. A very immature way of dealing with it, and it didn't end there. He supposedly in a drunken stupor grabbed a cops butt.
Shortly after the Flyers (led by Giroux) knocked the Crosby led Penguins out of the playoffs, the great Giroux - Crosby rift began - and it spiraled out of control
Crosby went so far as to let it be known that he would not play on Team Canada if Giroux was on the team ( this was occurring when the Flyers had zero pull in Toronto as Homer is an American, Ed Snider was hated by Canadians fir ruining their game with the Broad Street Bullies and Hextall - a Canadian - was yet a few years away from being Flyers GM )
It drove Giroux nuts that numerous years when he was in the top 3 or 5 fur scoring he was left off the team.
Crosby was the better player but far from a class act. Giroux outgrew his antics and has been a true class act ever since.
