From Austin Texas, maybe another guy ending up at Texas? But a good player, so glad to him not in the Clemson orange and white any more.

Taters seem to think they're losing RJ Mickens as well. At this rate, they're only going to return 3 starters on D. To this point, they have one portal offer out there for a D2 OL.

Desperation. 🤣
Here are his comments from today. Doesn’t sound too desperate to me!

"nothing's different than it's ever been. We evaluate the portal just as we evaluate everything else. This year we've got one position in particular that we would like to find a couple of guys that have multiple years of eligibility because we missed out on some high school guys."

Checking in on dear ol' Clemson...their top 2 OL targets in the portal have committed elsewhere. They lost one today to GT.

Some pretty good freshman on that team on the backend that woke up near the end of the year.
I saw where Clemson had more true freshmen snaps taken than any team this season. If they can hold onto those players going forward, they are building depth the old fashioned way.

They are cycling out, we are cycling in.....
I hope the cycles are short. They have a long ways to fall and we have a long ways to climb. I don't think the new world of college football is good for Clemson or Carolina. I can see both programs settling out at being 8 win programs most years.

I warned everyone on here for years that ditching the BCS for a 4 team playoff would be a disaster for USC and great for Clemson. I was right.

At least with the portal and NIL Clemson is equally harmed. And I'll take 8 wins. It's the best we can hope for unless things return to pre-playoff and that's not happening. We can sit back and watch Alabama and Georgia play 3 or 4 extra games each year and wonder why we can't compete. lol

I can see that. Especially in the new SEC. Winning 10 is going to be a herculean effort for any team.

However, with the portal, the fall can be quick. I wouldn't be shocked to see them lose more players in the 2nd window. The good thing is we have a coach that has embraced. They do not.

Bama will take a hit when Saban retires. He’s not going to do it forever.

I

I read this morning that he has made a decision and Dumbo said he was going to let Shipley tell everyone what his plans are after the bowl game.
Yeah. It would be kind of stupid to announce you're returning after the bowl game. He gone.

Unless you can’t decide what you want to do. These are young adults and it’s a hard decision. I wouldn’t want to give up a year of college. Hell I would go back in a heart beat.

We all knew that one day Dabo's arrogance would come back to bite him. Seems that NIL has wiped out the advantage of having a bag man. Now he has to compete on a level playing field.

why don't you back to your tater board.
I'm about as far from a tater as one can be but I'm honest about what I see. I don't decide how I want things to be and declare that to be reality.

Playing freshmen does a couple things; it gets young players actual game experience so they are better prepared when they step in as starters and it keeps players from jumping in the portal because they have done nothing but watch games from the sideline. The top teams going forward are going to be the teams that recruit and develop talent out of HS, not teams that go portal shopping after every season playing roster wack-a-mole.

I think there's some validity to that. I also think it's going to be tougher and tougher to do that as they keep losing highly rated guys to the portal. The programs like USC, Ark, Mizzou, Ol Miss, etc...will benefit.

The teams you list may get "better" but they will remain second tier at best and lower than that if their portal players don't pan out as expected. Add in the locker room turmoil from bringing in players who appear to be taking a position from an established player and team chemistry could really suffer. There is another thread about Sellars and the concern about bringing in Jefferson and what Sellars might do. Multiply that by 10-15 players and I don't see the portal as a total benefit to a team.

Colorado's whole team was pretty well made up of portal players and they went 4-8 and 10 players have left so far. That mean Meion has to find 10 players to replace those on top of a new class of say 25 players. That means Colorado will have 35 of 85 players being new faces and 18 are graduating so that means 53 of 85 will be new. That sort of turnover is not good for a team.

The reality is that any playing time a player gets, regardless of class, is an audition for the next gig at the highest bidder. Loyalty is fallacy and no longer is a factor in the game.

True, and this is a major reason I will not contribute to NIL nor ever understand why anyone does.

Which is exactly why I don't understand why people are so scared of running Sellers off. If he's as good as we think, good chance he's leaving anyways. Or at least you have to prepare for that.

Could Sellers be Beamer's Willie Korn in the eyes of the fans? No player should be bigger than the team.
