It may be just an easier route to the CFP being the motivator. That could work for them on recruiting too for the same reason. Not seeing that happen but you never know.
I'm not so sure. I think Venables might be turning the corner. They were beginning to look better at times this year - much like we were. We'll see how it all turns out.

I think Allen is an excellent hire. A lot will depend if Clemson's running back can stay healthy to move the ball on the ground to give the defense breathing room. Is Mafah a returning player? I don't know enough about them. I know he is an excellent RB. But he has to stay healthy. Again, I think Dabo did well in his selection.
But our new Offensive Coordinator is not bad either. It will be interesting to see what Mike Shula produces with the offense during Spring practice. Unlike Loggains who was called the "worst Offensive Coordinator in the NFL", Shula won the honor of "Offensive Coordinator of the Year" in the NFL. When he was Head Coach at Alabama, Shula led them to 8th in the nation in his 3rd season there and received a contract extension for 6 years. But, for whatever reason, he was fired after the following season. That is similar to what happened to Lane Kiffin at Southern Cal. Kiffin led the Trojans to a Top 10 finish in his 2nd season there but, was fired in the middle of his 4th season there. Like Mike Shula, Kiffin is an offensive-minded coach. That's not a bad comparison.
I'm looking forward to Shula vs Allen next season.

My over thinking of this hire….. Allen is going there to be Clemson’s new H/C in waiting. 
Once he learns his way around campus, Clemson is going to pull the Biden to Kamala switch-out trick in an effort to trend up. 
Could be bad news for Gamecocks as far as the rivalry game. I am hoping Clemson keeps Dabo for as long as possible so we can keep winning Palmetto Bowls.

I don’t think there was any fighting for him to be had. What do you say to a man that comes to you and says, “ I’m moving because I want to be closer to my kids and grandkids”? That’s kind of a clear-cut response. Not sure how you counter that. Just changing DC's was an improvement but the quality is yet to be determined. The Penn St defense was ranked but not stellar at beating good offenses, not that the ACC is loaded with good offenses.
Not so sure about that, the last 3 years the only teams PSU has lost to has been Michigan and Ohio St, and this year to #1 Oregon in the B1GCCG.
