A question for people who actually know a little football. In his postgame presser, Kiffin kept talking about how Arnett was calling zero pressure on first down and no one ever does that. I think he said something to the effect of it must be Leach's last game because the coordinator is blitzing so much on first down.
Here's the question. Is it really that rare to run cover zero on first down?
Is there some unwritten rule you don't do that?
I'm not a coach, but it seems like a defensive coordinator ought to be running what the offense doesn't suspect on downs where they don't suspect it. Just curious what any coaches or x's and o's gurus thought about that.
