Jackie Sherrill - Retired after the 2003 season (Nov. 27th Egg Bowl), Croom was hired Dec. 1st, 2003 (4 days)

Sylvester Croom - Asked to resign Nov. 29th, 2008 after the 45-0 Egg Bowl, Dan Mullen was hired Dec. 11th, 2008 (12 days)

Dan Mullen - Left for Florida Nov. 26th, 2017, JoMo was hired Nov. 28th, 2017 (2 days, I forgot it was that quick)

Joe Moorhead - Had his Yankee a$$ drug out of there on Jan. 3rd, 2020 after the Music City Bowl, Mike Leach was hired Jan. 9th, 2020 (6 days)

Mike Leach - Tragically passed away Dec. 12, 2022. Arnett was named the interim coach, but had the interim tag removed Dec. 15, 2022 (3 days)

If history holds true, we should have a new head coach announced within the next week.

Seems the timing will not be good for that with two to 3 weeks left in the season. But that said, y hope we get our guy that quickly.

I doubt it happens that fast this time. We still have two weeks left in the regular season.

The differences in this situation is it's not the end of the season yet. We can not even talk to other coaches for interviews without the permission of the university they are at.

I had completely forgotten that kick rocks was that quick. At the time, I think that the narrative was that Cohen was really on top of things, always prepared like a boy scout with a short list of candidates.

Agreed. Unless you have got a sure-fire, national championship caliber coach ready to coach for you (Mark Richt to Kirby Smart at Georgia was 11/29/2015 - 12/6/2015) we should absolutely take our time with this one.

Interesting. The wild-card this time is this is a mid-season termination. No telling how that might change the time frame but if it does affect it I'd think it would only elongate the process not decrease it.

For the sake of accuracy, Jackie announced his retirement at some point prior to the 7th game of the 2003 season. I would hate to give LT credit for running a four day search.

I'm pretty sure that Mullen had basically told Cohen during the season that he wouldn't be back, so Cohen had plenty of time to vet interest and zero in on his guy.

I remember the JWS search when Felker was hired. I want to say that JWS was hired around December 5, 1990. From what I can recall the names thrown around at the time were, JWS, Bobby Collins, & Bobby Wallace.

Sherrill was most certainly not a 4 day search. He announced that he was “stepping down” midseason.

Do you really believe this?

We can talk to and offer the job to whoever we want. “Permission to interview candidates” is nothing more than a polite way of saying, “Hey, you guys should probably start putting feelers out there, too.” It is not required at all. All this stuff is handled through agents, anyways.
