Of those being talked about, my top choice would be Kevin O'Sullivan, but I do not see it happening. Even though apparently he came close to taking the job before Kingston was hired.

You gotta get somebody with the skills, and some experience, but not worn out. Somebody who has the ability AND a whole lot of....

"I want this really bad and I'll work my @SS off to be competitive, and win in the SEC, and get to Omaha when the pieces are there."

I think it 's going to take a bit of a dice roll... an educated dice roll. Tanner knows what it takes. Can he see it in someone else? There is doubt that he can. He gets a pass on Holbrook, but not on Kingston. This one has to be good.

P&C posted a pretty long list. It was a good one. Didn’t realize Adrian Morales was at Nova Southeastern. He’s probably a more serious candidate than Landon Powell, though I doubt either get a serious look.

List contains a lot of guys that would’ve been great hires 3-4 years ago but have struggled recently the past couple of years and may welcome a change of scenery. Then a couple of guys with no HC experience which doesn’t seem to be Tanner’s plan.

Will be interesting to see this play out. I got a feeling this one moves quick, which is a bold prediction considering how long Tanner’s hires have taken place in the past.

Morales would be a interesting, brave pick. I doubt he gets consideration, but that could be an inspired pick.

It's going to be Monte Lee, he didn't bring him there for nothing!!!
Lot of push from current players and recruits for Monte Lee
He will be the next coach!!! Ray didn't bring him there for nothing

Monte will NOT be our next coach. This will have to be a big name hire. We already went the route of "top assistant" that everyone wants and it didn't work out... we tried the "up and comer" after O'Sullivan backed out at the last minute... now we have to over pay for a proven winner (whether he works out here or not, it has to be a no-brainer hire like O'Sullivan would have been 7 years ago. Someone like ECU coach, Duke coach, Wake Forest Coach etc.

Godwin would be my first choice. If not, I’d like to see Tanner offer to double Nick Mingione’s salary to come here. He is only making around $600k , and what he’s doing at a bottom feeder program like Kentucky is impressive

What about Lemonis? SC guy, SEC guy, has a national championship. Seems to check all the boxes

Godwin would be awesome, but he is not coming to SC. The only reason he would have for coming to SC would be the money, and you don't want a guy who only comes to you for the money.

You still have to make Godwin say no. I think he's the first phone call with a blank check.

I don't think money is the _only_ reason a coach would want to move from an American Conference program to an SEC program that was recently the premier program in the country. If a coach wants to win a national championship, he's got a better shot of building a team that can do it at SC than at ECU.

Godwin is having find success at ECU. Not sure of his motive to come here. He's been there a decade and a key factor: he is coaching less than 30 minutes from his hometown.

I believe Ray has his guy, if not he would have hired consultants to search for one. I also believe he’s giving the job to Monte. Hope I’m wrong.

I hope not.
Why turn it over to someone who is/was an assistant in the system which just failed? More of the same?

If Monte is hired, it's because four or five guys ahead of him declined IMO. The coaches at Duke, Wake, and East Carolina would all be solid choices. I could also see where any one of them could say no because they have a great situation where they are in that they are successful but there is not that same pressure to be great like there is here.

Miss. State coach is good also... but I've heard he doesn't do well with negative fans, so he would run into the same issue here.

Meade would make sense as well.

We need some one:

who has proven he can win on the D1 level(40-45 wins in an average season, capable of going 50+ in a good year)

Has shown they can advance in the NCAA tournament(maybe hasn't gotten to a CWS yet, but with the progress they've made that it's coming sooner rather than later)

Someone you feel can be here 10+ years with sustained success(someone who is not long in the tooth, or at least is not that long 35 years old to at worst 45)

Our Baseball program as far as I'm concerned is basically in the same place it was in the summer of 1996. Our best baseball at that time was drifting further and further in the rearview, as it is now. We had to hit the reset button then, we need to hit it again now.

Only if he brings his recruiting coordinator Jeff Palumbo.

I like Josh Elander from Tennessee. Tony Vitello was never a head coach before, but he brought in Elander as recruiting coordinator, catchers, and hitting instructor. In the seven years that Vitello has been there, same as Kingston, he has built a powerhouse. Anybody around that organization will tell you that Elander has been a major part of the process. The dude has fire in his belly and would work his butt off here.

Dan McDonnell. Has already publically expressed his disappointment with the lack of support he has been getting from the new UL AD. Has no baseball NIL to work with. And seemingly wants to go to a place that supports baseball.....that would be USC. Small-ball coach who is big on fundamentals and is probably one of the best in the country at it. Played at the Citadel and knows the area well.

We went after Lemonis during the last coaching search....wanted to get back to his hometown where he has a lot of family and coach at this dad's alma mater.

Ray didn't bring him here. Kingston did because of his recruiting ability.....plus Lee is a big analytics coach similar to Kingston's philosophy.

Reportedly has already been in discussions with the open Citadel position. IMO he will be HC at the Citadel or Winthrop next year.
Both sound like a good fit for him. I do wonder if he'd like to get back to Charleston... the city

I've heard he doesn't fall in line with NIL. That is different from your statement. If he is considered, hope your statement is accurate.

A poster on TIF gave a synopsis of an interview with an ESPN Louisville reporter who says that McDonnell has no problem using NIL and the portal (and would like to) but is simply unable to as UL has no baseball NIL, This is obviously related to his frustration to the lack of support that the new AD is giving to the baseball program. The old AD was very supportive of the baseball, the new AD, Josh Heird, was hire June, 2022.

EDIT:
Terry’s interview with Drew Deener with ESPN Louisville earlier today on 107.5 The Game

I'm impressed with how quickly Kingston was relieved of his duties. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere "respectable."
