....I don't want to risk losing Russell for somebody who is a long shot to sign with us. Then we end up with Cameron Lawrence and Hollingsworth.

Lawrence is coming in as a Safety, but will be given a shot at QB. Hollingsworth is coming in as an athlete. With Green's size and speed, he also has the potential to play other positions. Plus, there is going to be competition anywhere he goes. Russell doesn't strike me as a kid who has to have the starting job handed to him his freshman year.

as not to upset our 3 star recruit? Now, I'm happy Russell committed and I hope he sticks, but this is a big boy game, and we're never going to step up if we don't recruit blue chip players. Besides, TR has already said he's not afraid of competition.

...while I think Elliott was coming here anyway, it sure didn't help Ole Miss's case that they went hard after Joe McKnight. They ended up with neither. Don't want to happen to us.

AND, this is the problem with not signing any qb's last year and trying to sign 5 in one year. Obviously, it would be great if we could get him, though.

...I'm just saying. It can happen. And no I don't want to tell him "No thanks," but I do want us to really believe we can get him before we risk alienating Russell. I could see him doing us like Perriloux or McKnight did Ole Miss.

If Green wants to come to MSU, you can't worry about losing Russell. Green can also play WR. I know he wants to play QB, but once he signs, he's basically at the mercy of the coaches. MSU football is just getting back to the point of pulling in a few blue chippers every year. We are also not at the point of turning our nose up and saying no to a big time propspect (especially a skill position) just because we are scared of losing another player at said position. It wouldn't shock me at all if we land this kid.

Interesting quote from Cody Green:

"People do ask and wonder why I would want to look at programs that haven't won much," said Green. "But I ask them why would you go to a place where everybody is a hero and superstar. Why not go to a place where nobody is a hero or superstar but they could turn into a bunch of heroes and superstars."

The article said that MSU, Miami and Nebraska were his leaders. Scout.com has LSU as his leader. LSU has a mobile QB already committed(Russell Sheppard # 2 QB in nation), plus Garrett. Just basing things off that quote, we are the only school that would fit into what he said. I know this is coming from a 17 year old kid, but the guy is smart. I think I read where he is a December grad as well. 4.3 GPA on a "sliding scale".

They are finally putting actions to what they say they want to do, which is improve the offense. Yes, I'd like to see the WCO scrapped, but at least getting verbals from legit prospects and serious looks from 4 stars is a nice change. Green would be huge.

Plus, if you land Green (5*QB on scout), you have a great chance at his teammate WR/S AJ Dugat (4* Safety on scout.com). That would be huge. So hypothetically, if you land Green and Dugat and lose Russell and Smith, it might be an even trade off. That's probably reading a little bit too much into it. Just looking at what 1 commit might bring with him. I hope we keep Smith and Russell and I believe we will.

I just can't understand why a standout QB or receiver would even consider coming to State unless you like running the option one time on a scripted play in the 1st quarter and throwing two yard outs to running backs. Obviously, this is the only thing Carroll can physically do though. These guys are crazy unless Croom is telling them that they are going to change the offense once they get a stud QB.

we run the WCO and that's what the NFL primarily uses. He wants to major in animal science and eventually be a vet so that's why there is other interest. Apparently, this wasn't just State going after him. It seemed like he contacted State as well.

since he is from Texas, why not Texas A&M? Better vet program and better football program. Not to mention an offense that won't finish in the 100s. We actually do run the WCO though, like 4 plays of it.

across the board compared to MSU. You have to actually earn your way into A&M if you are in-state, it's actually competitive.
