and the things that I really liked about him was his tempo on the mound and his poise. He was throwing in the mid and upper 80's, topping out at 89, although I happened to be sitting near a scout with a radar gun who I overheard commenting that the Trustmark Park gun was about a mile or two slow.

He will be a good addition to our team. Someone at the game told me that his Dad played a sport at State, but he couldn't remember what it was- baseball or football. I have no idea if that's true or not, but that same person told me he was State's to lose.

It's also good to see that we may have broken the Tupelo pipeline to Ole Miss, now all we have to do is break the Hillcrest pipeline. (Hillcrest represent for vh).

Sure is nice to already be getting some guys choosing us over other SEC schools this early in Cohen's tenure. Just shows what this program can be when it's in the proper hands.

I would be even more impressed if he got David Renfroe from South Panola to decommit from Ole Miss. I doubt that would happen since he is an Ole Miss legacy.

Yeah, I think we can forget that one but I gotta admit this turnaround in recruiting is taking off even faster than I expected. I knew Cohen would get this thing fixed but gosh, he's still in the process of putting a staff together and just hired his pitching coach last week. I'm convinced more than ever that Polk and Co. put very minimal effort into recruiting. This is not a hard program to sell when it's in the right care.

but its not like Laddie grew up in an Ole Miss family. He just went there because it was a good oppurtunity for him. I don't think he will have a problem with David going to State. Here's hoping Ethan can try and bring him over.

they had a rally going and someone smoked a ball, but unfortunately it was right at someone for Ocean Springs. I thought that Enis left Stratton in too long, to.

has been Lane Burroughs because I'm sure that he knows who to go after- it seems like USM has been getting most of the better players in Mississippi lately- and then Cohen seals the deal.

But you're right about MSU baseball not being hard to sell. How many times have we hosted a Regional and some player from the other team will say something "Man, if I knew it was like this, I would have come here."

We have the fanbase- which is what most people don't have, the facilities, tradition, the conference, and now we have the coaches.

Laddie will have little if any input in David's decision. First and foremost, it will be David's decision. Secondly, any input he may seek out will come from his mother's side of the family. It's OM or pro.

Stanton Price from Vicksburg is waiting to hear about a spot to walk on. There might not be enough room. 100 Strikeouts last year with a 1.07 ERA. He is coming to State regardless.

in the past, a guy like Ethan Bright would've committed to Ole Miss and our loser fanbase, led by the Ulysses S. Grant of Status Quo KB21, would've said "BUT WE CAN'T COMPETE, THEY HAVE LUCKY DAY!"

it sounded more like going pro than Ole Miss. That kid has a great talent.

He does have great talent, but don't buy into the rumors that were posted on the OM boards in the last few weeks. Rivals posted a rumor that he had no intentions of playing college ball. Then is spread to other boards. I am close to David's family. He was pretty pissed about the rumors. He has no idea where they started. His dream is to play pro ball, but he would have to be a very early pick to bypass college. As a matter of fact, his mom & Laddie didn't finish their degrees due to Laddie going pro. Education is high on their list of priorities as a result.

Congrats on the Bright pickup. The Brights are a baseball family. Josh very well could have played college baseball had he not pursued football. Had he played in a passing offense in HS, he could have played SEC football. He had the talent. Just wasn't showcased.

I didnt get my info from the internet. It was someone in Batesville but he thought he was going to be a high pick and would go pro. That's what I was told.

Its great to see what Cohen and Co. are pulling off the market. I feel like our tearm next year will go undefeated just from the positive attitude coming out of everyone and the energy our coaching staff has brought to the table(even though i know that will never happen its just a warm feeling).

obviously we won't win every game, but I do feel like we will at least have a great shot at going to a Regional and I am 100% sure that Cohen will lay the foundation on his program in year one.

We're still going to have problems with our pitching staff, and still lack a legit SEC ace- and we're not going to find one at this point unless something unlikely happens and we are able to get Webb who signed with UK or Stovall who was drafted by the Braves. I do expect our pitching staff to be better though, partially because we were so freaking bad last year, and while it's not likely, it's also not out of the realm of possibility that we could have an all freshman weekend rotation. We also must find a closer.

We should be strong at catcher. Conner Powers will have to carry our offense next year, and really every position in our infield is up for grabs.

Our OF should be fairly strong, if not crowded, assuming that Grant Hogue returns.

Todd, I agree with you. Offensively we will be better than we have been in years. We will be more aggressive than we have been in at least 32 years!! The most evident thing will be the attitude at the plate. Passiveness will be a thing of the past.

I think the outfield has two spots locked up (even though they will have to prove it to Cohen in the fall). Those two spots will belong to Hogue (assuming he returns) and Luke Adkins. Luke was a quality player at USM and had to sit out last year due to transfer rules. He is having a great season in summer ball. Goforth's speed could have him in the lineup if he proves that he can get on base. Look for him to crowd the plate and learn to push and drag bunt under Cohen. It would be a huge shot in the arm for the offense if that could happen. I am not holding my breath but think the change in offensive philosophy could help him too. Cohens style is similar to the style that he played as a freshman under Shoope at Birmingham Southern. I dont think it will happen and Nappi winds up in LF.

Catching is very solid with Duffy and Freeman. Both of these guys benefit from Cohen and Burroughs as the hitting coaches. Look for big things from both of these guys. I see one catching and the other as the DH. Should be Duffy, Powers, and Freeman in the middle of the order.

Infield, Connor Powers at First Base and Sneed at Third. Again both benefit from Cohen and Burroughs as the hitting coaches. You have to think that Bussey has the head start on locking down either of the middle infield spots, since he is a Cohen signee, and especially if he runs as well as his stats indicate. The other middle infield spot is wide open.

Pitching. We gotta hope that some freshman can contribute. Luckily for three of them, they are Left Handed which usually gives them an advantage as a freshman. Hopefully Jones and Reed can contribute also and maybe Bussey can be the closer.

Here is my guess for the lineup next year:

Hogue CF
Adkins RF
Powers 1B
Duffy C/DH
Freeman DH/C
Sneed 3B
Nappi LF
Powers/Butler 2B
Bussey SS

C/DH- Freeman and Duffy
1B- Nappi or Conner Powers
2B- Bussy
3B- Conner Powers or Nappi
SS- Ryan Powers IF he responds to Cohen's teaching about hitting, but the reality is this position likely will go to whoever reaps the benefits of Cohen's teaching the most- Butler, Sneed, Bussy, or Micheal Busby all have a shot. Heck, even Frankie Rawdow could legitimately win the job. I went with Powers because his defense is there, and he just seems more like a Cohen type player moreso than some of the others and I can see him benefitting the most.

RF- Ryan Collins
CF- Hogue (hopefully) Switch hitter next year?
LF- Adkins, you're dead on about him. A lot of people forgot about him because of all the hoopla last year, but he is a good player that fell out of favor at USM. I'm not sure if Burroughs coached him or not, so that may be a good thing.

Bench- Goforth- agree 100% on him, he benefit the most of any player next year. Sneed, Butler, and Nick Hardy if he isn't cut.

Rotation

Fri. Forrest Moore
Sat. Ricky Bowen
Sun. Chad Crosswhite

Midweek- Tyler Whitney- Brooks Dunn part two.

Closer- You have to say Bussy is the favorite at this point.

Others- Busby, Houston, Swindle, Marquardt- who apparently wasn't good enough to pitch last year, yikes!

The freshmen- Caleb Reed, Devin Jones, Nick Routt, Tyler Johnson, David Hayes, Ben Allsup, and Stanton Price.

Victims of McNickle- Jared Koon and Jared Wesson.

Oxford boys- Cade Hoggard and Brent Brownlee.

Bullpen catcher- Brooks Lewis.

TilloDawg- Tupelo only had SIX seniors to sign. Very good high school team but unlucky in that two senior pitchers got sick or hurt last 3-4 weeks of playoffs. Threw all juniors last two or three playoff series(except for 2 innings out of 24 in finals). C Stratton is the real deal. Bright is good player and probably be everyday first base at some point. I also have seen South Panola play several times and they have some nice players but Renfroe and Bright are very good. I think all three of these kids stand a good chance of getting drafted next year. Also what Stratton doesn't get in baseball scholarship will be made up in academics.

I believe Lee Stratton played basketball at MC. He coached basketball at Crystal Springs and Brookhaven before a long stint at Tupelo.
