in a "down" year for the conference, sebaseball.com currently has 8 teams going to regionals with 2 (SC and Ga.) hosting.

LSU is currently a 3 seed. I really think Maneiri is going to get that thing going down there. He cleaned house and then signed the no. 1 class in the country last year.

Makes you wonder how hard it's going to be to make our 'return to prominence', which we all think we be so easy, if we get the right coach.

It is nice to have the conference considered 'down' when us, UM and LSU aren't the top dogs.

so that's not really relevant to our rebuild. I doubt anyone will ever dominate the conference again, but our return will have less to do with the rest of the conference and more to do with improving our recruiting strategies, our S&C, our player development, our hitting philosophies and our in-game strategy.

with all our players available, we probably are pretty good this year, even with Polk holding us back. That's why I think Raffo may not be such a horrific choice, given that he does some house cleaning. That doesn't mean I don't want someone better. What if we had Matt Lea and Pigott starting the Fri.-Sat. games? And just Turner back in the lineup batting third would have been a difference maker. And Ryan Powers should be playing SS, in my opinion. We don't take errors very seriously it doesn't seem.

I actually like Polk's in game hitting philosophy over the long haul. However this year, he's tried to mix and match and has been horrible. WAY too many guys gunned out at home and double plays, when in the past he played it conservative, or station to station. Of course, S&C somes into play here too.

Pitching woes have been HORRENDOUS since McMahon left. I think it boils down to Polk's flat out negligence and laziness in his older age. He always had a problem with leaving pitchers in too long though.

then I'd be less optimistic about the future. But its not. As you say, our pitching is HORRIBLE. That's half of the game.

...almost everyone within hearing range of my seat in the seatbacks in Section K. Strength and Conditioning has been obviously neglected by this team. Conner Powers plays 3rd base listed at 6-2 230. It seems the team spends time in the weight room, but does it bulking, not working on stretching, speed and flexibility. We wouldn't have hamstring injuries if they were more flexible. The same goes with pitchers building more strength and flexibility in arms and shoulders.

Yea they just swept USC. I can't remember us ever doing that.

To several:

I think it will take us two years to rebuild. In baseball it's going to be A LOT easier than what we went through with football. A lot of the players only stay for 2-3 years and 8dog was right on all of his points, and recruiting- which is the area in need of the most improvement in my eyes, and the other things should be improved as well.

As far as hamstrings- stretching can reduce the chance of a hamstring injury, but it won't necessarily prevent them totally. As far as the pitchers- ice would be a step in the right direction. We just have to become more modern.

Another thing I would like to see us do is get some video machines for scouting purposes like they do in the Majors. I'd like for us to be able to tape at least the other SEC teams games- we can probably get their games that aren't televised over the other schools versions of M2M. We could also tape our games- something we may do already- to help correct our flaws. I think that would give us a little bit of an edge.
