Pretty sure that 2015 team was the only one to win 24 games and not get in.we will never get any respect unless we do this long term. How many times did we have well over 20 wins under Martin but got passed over on selection sunday by someone like Syracuse who many thought didnt deserve to be in? Its all about name on the front of the jersey even more than records or what has been done. Really crappy by AP voters. However I am not surprised and almost expected it.
Not when you beat Kentucky like a drum and take care of Mizzou.Hard to go from not even being in the "others receiving votes" to breaking into the top 25 in one week.
Agreed. It's just hard to believe we haven't received any votes prior to this week. I saw several polls that had us in the 40's and 50's last week.Hard to go from not even being in the "others receiving votes" to breaking into the top 25 in one week.
I still say even with all that, it is unheard of to go from not receiving votes to being inside the top 25 in one weeks time. They were just too far back. Not when you beat Kentucky like a drum and take care of Mizzou.
To put in perspective, UK dropped 4 spots. Lol
The blue blood bias in these rankings are unreal.
Team is gonna be ticked (meechie has already put something on X)
In the pollsters eyes they were but should have already been receiving votes before.I still say even with all that, it is unheard of to go from not receiving votes to being inside the top 25 in one weeks time. They were just too far back.
With the Final Four run the following year, it is even more one of the greatest injustices in sports than this team got left out, especially the way it all unfolded with the text messages. Sadly, nobody cares about South Carolina basketball nationally, so you never hear much about this.Pretty sure that 2015 team was the only one to win 24 games and not get in.
Every time they would have some momentum toward the top 25, they would take a step back with a loss. They lost a lot of momentum with the Alabama and Georgia games. In the pollsters eyes they were but should have already been receiving votes before.
If I recall, we were ranked at various points that season but really stumbled down the stretch. As good as the record was, the committee was likely turned off by us playing bad basketball that time of the year.Pretty sure that 2015 team was the only one to win 24 games and not get in.
BS. Alabama was handled by Clemson. The night we played them they shot like they had taken a magic potion; nothing but net three pointer as the clock expired from behind the backboard while falling down out of bounds with Stute all over him ring a bell? Enough with the bama worship; Alabama’s a basketball team, just like us. Horseshoe won’t be active every game.Alabama is 24. As much as I’d like to be ranked, I know Alabama is a better team than we are. And more than a couple of spots better than we are. We just need to keep winning and we’ll be fine. Keep improving during the season and we’ll have a shot down the stretch for a very good season.
BS. And just saying a team is better isn’t worship.BS. Alabama was handled by Clemson. True. Damn sure almost missed it in the FF year for the same reason. If I recall, we were ranked at various points that season but really stumbled down the stretch. As good as the record was, the committee was likely turned off by us playing bad basketball that time of the year.
Edit:
Yeah, we were 5-5 down the stretch in the regular season and then lost against lower seeded UGA in our first SECT game. Only had 7 losses on the regular season, but 5 of those came in our last 10 games. Not attractive to the committee. If it’s left up to them, they want to pick teams they think will create good matchups. And we didn’t have name recognition to help us.
Should we have still gotten in? I’d say so, but the one thing we all know is you can’t give the committee a reason to question.
No, many of the 64 slots are filled by small school/conferences that are automatic qualifiers (won their conference). The only ranking that matters is 64 or higher on selection day
Agreed but we get Harvard's point. No, many of the 64 slots are filled by small school/conferences that are automatic qualifiers (won their conference).
Next season was actually worse in that respect. Counting the SEC tournament, we lost six of our last nine. Honestly, I feel like it was sort of a make up for screwing us over the previous year.True. Damn sure almost missed it in the FF year for the same reason.
While I would like to have seen our team ranked this week, I am not surprised and really not that disappointed. We are in good shape with a lot of games to prove ourselves ahead of us. The country is aware. Otherwise, we would not be on top of the "Others receiving Votes". With that being said, our non-conference schedule was far from the toughest. Our two wins over Missouri is against a team that has yet to win a conference game. The Arkansas road win would seem to be a good one, but they are struggling too and have only 1 Conference win. We have two good home conference wins against Kentucky and Mississippi State, but that is about it so far. Need to build up our resume and move up into the rankings as we move into February and March. That's when rankings are important.BS. Alabama was handled by Clemson.
