I thought Croom's presence spoke volumes. Tells me he knows there's a new Sheriff in town. I was glad to see it.

I think it had more to do with Croom being Croom (nice guy welcoming a peer to the "company") then trying to kiss *** (or being told to) by the boss.

He was there because he has class (damn the SPS rules) and it was the right thing to do.

So since he was already in his office having lunch, it made sense to walk about 20 feet over and welcome the new guy to town

...Croom was up stairs in his office, probably looking at tape from the morning session of camp and decided to go down to the lobby to check out a press conference.

We indirectly kept with the MSU coach requirement. Cohen is a Bear disciple even though he isnt a football guy. Cohen and Croom can have Bear lovefests over lunch.

helping me attract top two-sport recruits to MSU?" Polk never seemed interested in two-sport stars like Dixon.

I agree Croom is the type of person who'd be welcoming, especially of a Tuscaloosa guy. But doesn't it interest you just a little bit to consider what may be going through Croom's mind right now, given his close relationship to LT and the "promises" that were admittedly made to him? Is his new contract finalized? or is some of that still up in the air right now?

You gotta believe that the events of the past few days have proven that LT is a toothless orifice now. Nothing but a useless appendage, rotting away, and about to fall off.

Croom is a good guy. He may not work out as head coach, although I fully hope he does, but that doesn't change the fact that he has class, integrity, and typically carries himself in a professional manner.

He said that at the event at River Hills last month. Croom is a person who is well respected pretty much everywhere, and his character is above reproach. If he is successful it would be huge for MSU. Now, that doesn't mean Byrne wouldn't can him if football went back into the crapper but it does mean that Byrne probably isn't walking into Croom's office telling him he better watch his back. I'm sure Byrne has layed out the expectations, but I highly doubt it was done so in any kind of threatening manner.

I agree with your characterization. I just wonder what kind of tension is created by promises LT made to Croom? It's pure speculation to consider it.

Croom is in year 4 and, barring a complete Polk (new 6pack term for meltdown in the tradition of "templeton"), he will get two more years. What else did ole Lar promise?

to solidify the continuing use of the palmeiro center gents.. Polk let Croom use the facility now he's gone and Croom was there to be not only a good colleague but to make sure his rain contingency is in place.

this is all there is to it. Croom was around to decided to show up and support Cohen. He probably read Polk's breakdown and thought it'd be nice to be on hand.

The idea that Croom thought "he better be there" is laughable. If there is one guy on campus that's not worried about his job, it's Croom.
