Well, it has gone down from the 13.00's. Of course, you reach a point where it's so bad, it can't help but go down.

And knowing the baseball Gods, Crosswhite will pitch a one-hitter.

I know he's done some relief work in the past few years as well as starting. Is he starting due to injuries or is that where he works best?

He has worked as a starter and in relief at State. Last year he was used mostly as a starter. This kid has had back problems this spring and has had a rough start. He has had good success in the past, not great, but good. Last year he had some really good wins for us. His record was 8-5. He will get his ERA down and pick up some wins for us as he gets healthier. The kid is a battler.

In fairness to him, I don't think his ERA would be anywhere near 11 right now had he not been pitching hurt. He was a pretty solid weekend guy last year, so his getting beaten like redheaded stepchild this year early (along with the loss of velocity and change in his mechanics) should have been an immediate tipoff. If everything is healed up and he's ready to go, i.e. isn't rushing back, I think he should have a decent outing tomorrow night.

he is starting because he is healthy, and his ERA is more of a product of him being hurt early in the season.

I think he can both start and pitch in relief equally well. Although, his ideal place would probably be as a set-up man. We're really thin as far as starters are concerned, so we have to have him start.

Yeah, I've always liked him. He seems to have solid, but not nasty, stuff. He's also a really nice guy (Is that a bad thing now?). Anyway, I hope the best for The Pride of Carthage, MS.

I dont think you have any SEC, or any college pitchers at all, that were not starters in high school. I do believe however that he is one of those guys, and I could be wrong, that is effective the first time you use him against a team. Then the second time, i.e. this season, he gets shelled. Just my opinion. I thought he did a decent job last season as a starter, but it is harder to maintain that status year after year unless you are an exceptional talent.

Great baseball players have the ability to adjust. We'll see if Crosswhite can do that. I still say that his lack of effectiveness was likely due to being hurt, especially since he had never pitched against UNF or Air Force.

hitting teams is not good. I do believe UNF is a decent ball club, however AF is not. Nonetheless, with scouting reports as thick as nuclear weapons user manuals it is hard to keep secrets on pitchers flaws. Even on the high school level it doesn't take long for a pitchers flaws to be pointed out and then everyone knows. I always thought that his quick windup was a gimmick to cover up something in his delivery maybe his velocity, changeup, I don't know. I hope that he comes back from his injury 100% and regains some resemblance of his '07 form because we need some serious help with our starting pitching.
