This may be a drastic thought but with the emergence of Fukodome I think we have enough offense WITHOUT Soriano. Not awesome, but enough. I wouldn't mind trading him for a proven starter and/or a solid reliever. That's where the Cubbies tend to lose games.

I think day in and day out, they need another quality bat in the line-up. The pitching is strong and I think Wood may hold up. Even if he doesnt, Marmol is ready to close.

going to get you to a World Series. How does Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster match up against Webb, Haren, and a healthy Johnson? Not too well. Look at the complete rotation. The best starter outside of Zambrano so far this year has been Lieber. He has been the team MVP so far. Might be forced to move him into the rotation if Lilly continues to blow.
We could even throw Fukodome into the leadoff spot if we had to. His career OBP (even though it is in Japan) is higher than Soriano's. Soto is emerging as a solid hitter as well. Everyone has to stay healthy though. Soriano's stats are plastic anyway. He racks them up in meaningless games and can't be relied upon to get a clutch hit. There is some sarcasm there but there is some truth in it too.

The question is what starting pitcher could you realistically get for Soriano that would be worth it? His salary is so high you can only move him to a few teams. That's the problem.

CRAP! How long is he out? Not sure how long a quad will hurt you...

I'm sure now we'll just stick Pie in Center and Johnson in Left... Pie would be a decent leadoff hitter if he could actually hit the ball.
