I call bologna on the story. Don’t care how we may feel about Dabo. None of that story fits with his personality. Probably just a legacy upset that his kid wasn’t coddled.
Same here. If the kid had already told Dabo he was leaving, I doubt Dabo would have even had him at bowl practice.I have to agree. As much as I dislike Dabo and think he's a snake oil salesman - I can't see him harassing some third stringer for two straight practices.
Not only a big alumnus. Kinard is considered the 2nd best player to ever play at Clemson. He is in their Ring of Honor and his name and number is emblazoned on the inside of the stadium. Still has the Clemson record for interceptions and tackles by a DB. While they are closing ranks, this will not be taken well by some of their older boosters and their other Ring of Honor members. Neff has to be pulling his hair out over how to handle this one.Terry Kinard is a big alum at Clemson. I would not dismiss this so lightly. Of course they will close ranks and
Not is this case. Kinard was very forthright in his statement that his son was simply a scout team player. Kinard was a 2-time AA and high 1st round selection who knows the talent, or lack thereof, of his son. He was a walk-on.Helicopter dad and snowflake son.
He still has others who declared for the portal at practices.....difference is they are actually on the 2 deep and can help him win in the bowl game.Same here. If the kid had already told Dabo he was leaving, I doubt Dabo would have even had him at bowl practice.
You realize that David Hood is the reporter that everyone in media knows that asked a prepared question that set up Dabo for the scripted “Rant”. Gamecock fans have short memories. This is why Clemson always wins the PR game. They’re relentless and have the media in the bag. We have Gamecock fans right here jumping to defend Dabo. Did y’all already forget the rant? Good Lord. Screw him.
I can tell you, it’s a total non-issue for the Clemson folks. Not only a big alumnus. Kinard is considered the 2nd best player to ever play at Clemson. It's a total non-issue for Clemson fans. However, the issue comes in when you want to have a Terry Kinard talk to a recruit now or donate money. That bridge needs to be mended because that well can become poisonous and divide the former players. Bad thing is this was totally avoidable. Why is Dabo saying anything to a third stringer that is about to leave. Being a father of an athlete, Kinard probably tried to get his son to play at a lower level. However, his son probably wanted to try and do what his father did and most fathers are going to at least let their sons try. Like I said earlier, this could have been a situation where you could let a kid fail gracefully. Just seems like a situation where Dabo took his portal frustrations out on a kid that he knew couldn't help him. If so, that sucks.I can tell you, it’s a total non-issue for the Clemson folks.
Kinard is in their Ring of Honor. I don't think this is the case.Helicopter dad and snowflake son.
Hard coaching is one thing. Taking potshots at a walk-on that you know can't help you win is another. Wonder if he took potshots at the walk-on kicker who missed field goals all year until the South Carolina game. Probably not.Anyone who has ever had a coach knows its not all butterflies and rainbows. If my mom had ever heard some of my coaches she wouldn't have let me play sports ever again
Right. All-American in the 80's when football was a different game than this softer, 7 on 7ish version that we call football now. Kinard's coaches were Danny Ford, and Bill Parcells. So, he knows the difference between hard coaching and the BS.Kinard is in their Ring of Honor. I don't think this is the case.
You are not going to fire a two-time National Championship football coach over an issue with a scout team player. Why ask a question that you already know the answer to. The issue is you have one less former All-American in your corner when it comes time to recruit the next big time athlete. Also, it conflicts the former players when it comes to their support of the program. Do you support Clemson or your guy that you played with or know. This is not a fan issue. This is an internal issue in the program that you don't know how it's going to play until some time down the road.Asked a well-placed IPTAY donor if Dabo was in hot water. His response: “haha, no.”
Kids today never even heard of him. Kids only care about players they grew up watchingYou are not going to fire a two-time National Championship football coach over an issue with a scout team player. Yes. He played a long time ago, but the man's name is plastered all over the stadium. You can't tell me that doesn't matter. My son is a defensive back that plays in college. Having a former All-American defensive back talk to my son would have meant a lot if he were a P5 level player. It wouldn't matter how old he was. That 80's Clemson group is important. It's what made Clemson a National Brand. So, treat this like the normal fan and poo-poo it all you want. However, I know football and I know players. This is far from nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if Dabo has been forced to make a call (non-public) to mend fences.Uh, yeah, Kinard played at Clemson 42 years ago.
He may be revered by the Clemson faithful, but he's a total nobody to a high school recruit.
This is a great big nothingburger.

How much recruiting clout does George Rogers have with running backs today? I'd venture almost none. A 60+ year old is as unknown to today's recruits as players from the 1940s were to the 1980s players.Ask the average Clemson fan who is under 30 who Kinard is, and they probably wouldn't be able to tell you much about him, other than they've seen his name in the stadium.
Again, Kinard played 40 years ago at Clemson. He is as relevant to their current team and current recruits as typewriters and rotary telephones. He is on the left in this photo. He was arrested in 2014 on prostitution charges. I seriously doubt anyone around the Clemson program is overly concerned about him being upset.Kinard is an alltimer at Clemson. If you have an alltime defense he's one of the safeties. That being said the cult couldn't throw him under the bus fast enough.
He is an all-timer, no doubt. He just played so long ago, his name doesn’t carry any clout.Kinard is an alltimer at Clemson. If you have an alltime defense he's one of the safeties. That being said the cult couldn't throw him under the bus fast enough.
Meh, today's kids don't know or care about Kinard. I'd venture 90+% of them aren't even aware of this whole episode.Bad PR move by Dablo.
Could have been avoided if he wasn't such a thin-skinned blow hard who had to throw the last punch.
He'll survive but confirmed his true colors!
It’s far more important to Gamecock folk than Clemson folk. They truly don’t give a rip about it. Gamecock folk are weirdly in a tizzy about it.Meh, today's kids don't know or care about Kinard. I'd venture 90+% of them aren't even aware of this whole episode.
You seem to be carrying the water for Dabo here, big time. Have you forgotten “the rant”? Remember that, it was staged by a phony question David Hood posed to Dabo. The question, falsely attributed a quote made by Todd Ellis to Steve Spurrier. Now, you go ahead and take up for Dabo if you want. It’s far more important to Gamecock folk than Clemson folk. It happens elsewhere too.I call bologna on the story. Don’t care how we may feel about Dabo. None of that story fits with his personality. Probably just a legacy upset that his kid wasn’t coddled.
