I wondered about that kid. The staff took a big reach on him from Germany. Not sure he had the background and experience. I don’t think he saw the field here.

if appears he may have been passed up by Van de Berg.

Probably a really nice kid with a great story.
I’m sure some members of the staff had some great German food and beer on the recruiting trip. But in 3 years did he ever see the field.

A reach perhaps considering he was a German prospect, but he was a late commitment that the staff thought they could Galt into a fb player.

Considering Hardy was rated lower, and a PA kid, I'd probably prefer the staff take an in state kid with few offers that can play football, but perhaps is undervalued or not prototypical size.

Yep, but I'd expand that to include the core states of PSU's recruiting footprint - PA, NJ, OH, VA, MD.

There are always a few under rated and somewhat under exposed players that end up at some of the crappy ACC schools that end up as big time players.

Addison, the Pitt AA WR, must have slipped past the PSU staff as he is from MD and a low 4 star on 247 as an "Athlete", and didn't garner a PSU offer........ but it didn't take him long to make an impact.

With the Portal in play now, it's not like they will sit patiently on the scout team bench if they realize they aren't going to make an impact at PSU.

Franklin is a joke. He lets this kid hit the portal and expects to still lock down German recruiting?
Next coach up!!!
Rumor was that when his crew was in the Fatherland they had some bad wiener schnitzel, and don't plan to go back......

But I can recommend a nice department store in Munich that sells lace material that a wife could make into some pretty fancy lace curtains if they do decide to give it another go!!

Maybe he thought he was recruited to play the other football. His first day at practice could have been really awkward.

Guess we can blame Parker for that?

ND wanted him at CB. Sounds like Pitt wanted him at WR early and it stuck.

Hopefully Omari Evans replicates his success for us. Both were HS QBs.

Where I come from, you could get the firing squad for that comment.....
Lol! Sorry man. If it helps my surname is German, and I have been to Munich a handful of times. The food was never a highlight of those trips. The beer and Biergartens are another story.

Yeah, some of the best food I’ve ever had was in Germany. I don’t get that comment at all. Now - good English food is another story…
Sorry to offend those of German heritage. Not my intent. I was just being cheeky. Honestly, I was never impressed with the food in Germany (at least in Munich). Further, I remember scrambling from the English Garden trying to find a bathroom, because my cheese infused schnitzel was attacking my bowels. Perhaps getting sick negatively influenced my perspective.

It's their own fault. For good wiener schnitzel, go to Wien (Vienna).

That was Bavarian food.... ;) ;)

Seriously, the cuisine varies a fair bit depending on what part of Germany you are in. One of the best times to be there is during asparagus season ("spargel saison"). Lots of creativity. Another example--this was wild venison with dumplings near Erfurt.

Traveled through southern Germany in 2019 during the record heat wave and my only lament was how heavy most of the food was. Nothing like sitting inside at a restaurant without AC eating rouladen with spatzle and gravy. I'm a big fan of afternoon kaffee and kuchen!

“Ach, mist!” now we just cut ties with potential future German players! This will also be disappointing to some of the current PSU players as schnitzel and kasepatzle will no longer be on the team's lunch menu. I wish that ladde luck in the portal and hope he finds success in another program. I believe the word "ladde" is a North Germanic Origin, I could be wrong. I thought it was a good fit for this post. I'm not German, but man do I enjoy a grilled brat at a PSU tailgate!

I arrived in Germany in March 2001 and was introduced to spargel (first time I ever saw white asparagus). They had banners up all over Heidelberg celebrating it.

I do agree German food can be heavy though - especially in Bavaria. Which is why you go for a salat or currywurst mit pommes for lunch :).

Or a doner. I miss doners. But this was the coolest hotdog stand I've ever seen (Berlin)...currywurst.jpg

My wife grew up in Heidelberg and we visited for several days in 2019. Not quite the place she remembered as it has evidently changed greatly after the US military left.

I’m sure. Believe V Corps handed over Patrick Henry Village and other assets in the area (including my home for two years - Patton Barracks). I haven’t been back since 2012 or so. Change for the better or worse?

Yes. I admit that my German travel experience is purely Bavarian.

On that note, what are your impressions of Bavarians generally? I worked for a German global company for about 8 years and traveled to Munich a handful of times. Before my first trip, a colleague (who lived there as a delegate for 2 years and loved it) prepared me for the excessive Bavarian pride that I would likely encounter. This is a company that was criticized for only having Bavarians on its Board.

True to prediction, a German lawyer that I was visiting wanted me to understand that Bavaria is the richest state in Germany, Munich has the best art (no matter what Berlin thinks), they have the best education, Bavarian water has the best minerals which is why their beer is the best, she brought pretzels to the office so I could taste the best...etc. She was the definition of pride, and I am confident that she would bite through metal for Bavaria.

I really liked visiting Munich, and I would gladly take my family for a few days. For those who lived in Germany or have family there... I am curious how the other cities and states in Germany view Munich and Bavaria.

I stayed at a hotel on the other side of the main highway from that area. Still has the old names but is now a German residential area. Doubt it's changed that much. A friend of mine (unfortunately passed) lived in Karlsruhe near another old US base. His wife was part of a team keeping up the old base library as a resource for English speakers or those who wanted to learn English--ca. 2011-2013.

She would say worse. The subtraction of several thousand Americans probably has something to do with that. The marktplatz she remembers (1980's and 90's) was pretty vibrant and exciting. I thought is was touristy and dirty compared to what I had expected. When we visited, locals told us that large portions of the Army complex were being used as housing for Syrian refugees. Nice to see it being repurposed and for a good cause.
