4 star recruit, we will get him downgraded to a 2 star transfer. I think this is a great pickup regardless.

You guys are pitiful. “On3 had Reed as the No. 64 player in the country for the 2023 class and he was ranked No. 9 on the defensive line and the No. 5 player in the state of Georgia.” He has 3 years left to play. Not many d linemen start as a 1st or 2nd year player. I’m not turning down a top 10 defensive line recruit EVER if I’m Mississppi State. Did you guys see our defensive line this season? Bring this dude on!

Out of these players we are getting who were big time recruits and are leaving big time schools cause they haven’t played much or at all, we are gonna hit on one or two of them. Just the law of averages. One or two or hopefully more will wake up, or grow up (if needed) and be good players for us. Others will be processed cause they never had the talent or they will continue to be immature like I was at their age. Bring him on. I hope he seizes this opportunity.

Well you need at least 8 players that can produce at the SEC level. Last year we didn't have but one at best. Depth looks like something we will have. I don't think they are gonna sign any million dollar DL and that's what the ones yall want cost. 4 star with 2 years in a SEC weight room. He may be ready to blossom

I'm not expecting us to ever pull a SEC starter from another SEC school. But with today's redshirt rules, you'd hope a kid would get more than 12 snaps over 2 years. He simply hasn't been able to get on the field. I hope he's the next Reggie White...

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how much this defense is improved. Last year I felt like they did nothing on the defensive side to improve. This year tho they have added a ton of pieces. Gonna be hard to find excuses if they stink it up again..

Can’t be any worse. I think we upgraded at safety when Burnside moved to defense. And we got a good LB from TN to go with Blanton who is ok. Should be ok on outside LB, DE. Worried about interior DL & CB.

On offense, I think we’re good at QB & RB, OK at WR. Line is a question mark.

overall. Should be improved. But that schedule! Maybe even tougher than this year was.

Whether it’s On3, Scout, Steve Robertson, or any of the others… pre college rankings is a complete shot in the dark. What they do on the field as a college athlete says who they are.
As you saw last year, we didn’t have many dudes at all on defense, especially the line where it’s usually won or lost.
Can this guy be better than what we had…maybe. Did he show it at Auburn, nope. So now we have to hope our defensive coaches can see and continue to coach up talent, or not.. No sense in bickering about it.

I don't think not blowing up by your sophomore year is that big of a negative. I mean, he's obviously not Jeffery Simmons or Chris Jones, but we've had lots of solid to good DL that didn't really earn playing time until their third year on campus. And we've probably have a few great ones that weren't good until their third year on campus. I may be wrong, but I don't think Preston Smith did much before his third year on campus?

Regardless, if we can just have a two-deep of average SEC defensive linemen, that will be a huge improvement over last year.

It’s not that he didn’t blow up. He couldn’t even get snaps for a pretty bad team. He may turn out to be a good player. But so far he’s done nothing. Literally 0 stats.

Preston Smith appeared in 8 games as a true freshman in 2011 season, recording a forced fumble in a 31–3 win over Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl. In 2012, Smith appeared in all 13 games and led the Bulldogs with 4.5 sacks. As a junior in 2013, Smith recorded 2.5 sacks

I’m not sure where you saw that I truly disagreed with you in my post. But typically, portal guys don’t turn into average sec d linemen. Especially portal guys that are already in the SEC and do not garner playing time.

i certainly think that group will be better per man than this past season but how much better… we shall see.
