David Cutcliffe: is joining the staff at the SEC as special assistant to the commissioner for football relations.
We don't consider it expansion, we are already SEC in our minds. But if you mean ridding ourselves of the last vestiges of the Big 12, that is hard because of the Grant of Rights. The other Big 12 schools are angry at our "betrayal" by leaving them cold. So they are putting a big price on us leaving early (by that I mean before the 2023 season) and frankly, if it were up to just Texas, we would tap some deep pockets and just pay it. But OU just doesn't have that kind of money. Not that they are in financial trouble, they just couldn't swing paying the outrageous demands of the remaining Big 12. The deal seems to be both Texas and OU or neither, so promises have been made and we can't jump ahead of OU in arriving at the SEC. So we are waiting on OU. Either through the 2023 season, or if earlier until OU can talk down the demands of the Big 12, which may grow easier the closer we get to the end of the Grant of Rights. In many ways this was a lot harder for OU to swing than Texas, because Oklahoma State has a lot more political power in Oklahoma than Baylor and Texas Tech do in Texas. So OU can't be seen to "waste" a lot of money paying off the Big 12. Texas is famous for wasting money, so that is a non-event for us.@BattleshipTexas Anything brewing on the expansion front?

Sure. It was pretty fun playing Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. We play Alabama the 2nd game of the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Might as well play the weaker SEC teams too.does texas and oklahoma want to be playing an sec schedule?
Swept Bama in baseball this season as well.Sure. It was pretty fun playing Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. We play Alabama the 2nd game of the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Might as well play the weaker SEC teams too.
Didn't do as well in Columbia, or even in Chucktown. That had to sting.Swept Bama in baseball this season as well.
Conway? My recollection was two contests in Chucktown after leaving Cola. CoC beat 'em, and they ambushed el Cid the next night.Didn't do as well in Columbia, or even in Conway. That had to sting.
Your recall is better than mine. Edited my comment.Conway? My recollection was two contests in Chucktown after leaving Cola. CoC beat 'em, and they ambushed el Cid the next night.
An insider recently told me this, but I can't confirm if he is correct or not.@BattleshipTexas Anything brewing on the expansion front?
Think they'll get football schedules fixed that quickly? All other sports - yes.An insider recently told me this, but I can't confirm if he is correct or not.
Basically, he said because of the GOR penalty (you forfeit your TV revenue for the last two years) there was no way Texas and OU were going to stay in the Big 12 beyond the 2022 season during a period the schools know they would be giving up the $$$. His take was both schools will give notice as soon as they are paid for the 2022 season, and leave almost immediately as the conference will simply not pay either school for the last two years of the GOR. Then it will all play out in court, but Texas and OU will be playing in the SEC in 2023.
Now he could be wrong, but the latest it could happen is the 2024 season, but this guy is adamant it will be 2023 instead.
@KingWard
That could be a problem.Think they'll get football schedules fixed that quickly? All other sports - yes.
Often when a school joins a league, football takes a while to work out, and all other sports can be adjusted rather quickly.That could be a problem.
