I think she is FOS. If a national media member referred to our young ladies as monkeys, she should name them immediately. And that person should be fired IMMEDIATELY.

But just like the BYU situation, where tons of video couldn't find all the racial slurs that the player claimed, Dawn Smollett still refused to play because she did her own "personal research".

Fact is, if I was coaching against the women’s team, I might would call them bullies. Not in a negative way, but the SC girls are big and physical. You are going to get pushed around, bodied out, and catch a few elbows. Most teams that play that group are that going to get bullied in the paint. 20 years ago, that was a compliment.

Ironically, Dawn said she likes the physicality. I like it myself, but along with that style of play will come with complaints.

Agree. Do not need to continously play the victim card.

Dawn would be so much better as a coach if she stopped trying to play the victim card. "Thugs and monkeys?" Seriously, was there any sportswriter for a legitimate news outlet anywhere in the country that used those words? Or did they use other words to describe our physicality and then Dawn filled in the between-the-lines portion with her own narrative?

She came off as sounding like a sore loser in this postgame interview.

I support Dawn Staley 100%. What she said is true that a lot of people do not want to admit. I support her for taking up for her players. No coach is worth her salt if she does not take up for their players. I will say this I tip my hat to Iowa. Sometimes in sports it is best to tip your hat and congratulate the other team. Catylin Clark is Pete Maravich in a womans body. She is a baller. USC will be back, LSU probably should have lost to Utah but the young lady from Utah could not make free throws at the end of the game. But this happens in sports. Look at the history in the South about how people talk about African Americans. I speak the truth and that is my honest opinion.

If you're on social media, then you would know that our players have in fact been called monkies and compared to inmates. Good for Dawn standing up for her players. For those of you that want her to "shut up and coach", ain't happening. Get use to it. If there was an opening in any top program in the country, better believe she would be at the top of the list. We are blessed to have her.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but from what I gathered, she’s saying that someone in the national media called her players thugs, bullies, monkeys, and street fighters. She needs to state who said it, otherwise she just sounds like a sore loser. If it was said, it needs to be addressed

Agreed but don't wait until a loss to air grievances. Compliment Iowa and move on.

The reporter asked a question about other coaches that referred to her players as bullies….. Dawn responded with the word we aren’t monkeys and telling the media to not judge them by the color their skin.

I like Dawn. But she is over board with the racial stuff sometimes. She is quick to think everything is racist.

“Just watch what you say about our team because it’s wrong. You’ve got young lives who are really — if you really knew them, if you really knew them, like you really want to know other players that represent this game, you would think differently,” Staley said. “So don’t judge us by the color of our skin. Judge us by how we approach the game.

Choose to believe what you want. Dawn's a very powerful woman and she will continue to use her platform. That bothers some folks.
What's the point of shadow boxing if you are not going to do something substantial about it? Particularly when it's done in a post game press conference following an unexpected upset loss. There are classier ways to handle something like this if the point is to make a real difference in the situation. Even if she is responding to a question, it would have been better to address it at another time and place by agreeing to do a separate press conference to discuss it as the focal point.

I am 100% on board with her taking up for her players. I would be disappointed if she didn’t. However, she is the one who consistently brings up the fact her team is primarily black. I am not stupid enough to realize that there are some out there that will hate her and her players simply because of color. It is not the overwhelming majority.

I’d bet Geno or the coach from Iowa had no racist intentions when they referred to our girls as bullies or going to a bar fight. Our girls are physical and beat up on people. Just an old school style of play. Geno was complaining because his girls got beat. I took the Iowa coach’s statement as nothing other than they were in for a physical game. I’ve heard that said for years and it was meant as a compliment.

Yes, Dawn would name names, and this would be a national scandal. Nobody has called Dawn or the team these names.

I noticed that most basketball players are black. It’s been my opinion based off life experience that black people are better at sports that involve fast twitch movements, especially basketball. I have no issue with recruiting the best and most talent with leaving race out of the equation.
But just last night- The Iowa women’s team proved me wrong. Staley needs to get that Clark girl to Carolina through the portal!

Agreed.

We all know the connotations of "monkeys", and Dawn does too. There's no reason to bring that into a discussion on physical basketball play.

If Clark were on our team and had the wide open 3's we had all night it would have been murder for the opponent!
She is the missing link on our team!

Sounded to me she didn't care for the physical play inside on Boston. My first thought was she can't handle a dose of her own medicine. Turn around is fair play in how physical play is done.

Dawn's politics got some of you really angry. This is a great chance for you and the opposing social media warrior fans to get some payback. Enjoy.

It was definitely rough inside but all we have to do is make some 3's and that goes away. Just don't have that consistent weapon on our team.

Have people really called them bullies?
Yes. And the Iowa coach said you had to get ready for a bar fight to play Carolina. And Geno said we don’t play real basketball. And the Maryland coach helped prime the officials to treat us different than Iowa.

I don’t believe any media said monkeys, but absolutely believe that Dawn would think that would be said in these private conversations.

I don’t think she minded the physical play on Boston. The problem was Boston wasn’t able to play as physically as she normally does. There was a lot of pushing on both sides underneath. But when you are bigger than the ones you are pushing on, when you push it looks a lot worse. Clark got away with a lot of pushing with her elbows on drives, but we also did a ton of checking on her with no calls.

Facts are we shot really poorly from the field. We left an enough points on the line that could have swayed the game. We didn’t stop Clark, which I think was expected, but we also gave up a lot of easy baskets that we haven’t given up all year.

I grew up in the 80s. I loved the showtime Lakers. It was a beautiful brand of basketball. Then towards the mid to late 80s a brand of painful and physical basketball was created by a team called the Detroit Pistons. They took pride being hated for their style of play. If an opposing Coach said it was like a bar fight playing them that would piss them off because they wanted you to feel like you'd been in a violent automobile accident after playing them. In other words they owned it. They didn't cry about being called extremely physical but relished it. So note to Dawn. Get out of your woke constantly being offended state of mind. If you have a team that's physical and bothers other teams be proud of it. The racism is only being invoked by you. You lost so deal with it. It makes you look weak and like a sore loser doing this.

So let's forget everything this coach and team has accomplished and pick out their worst moment and all jump on the criticism wagon. This coach and team has accomplished as much as any athletic team we have ever fielded. Baseball has 2 natties but they lost more than 1 game. It was a bad night and our coach got emotional and laid out some feelings. I recall Frank McGuire doing the same thing. He was just as bitter as Dawn about his issues yet he's revered by all of us.

Tread carefully here my friend........

You are speaking *FACTS* where 'these people' like to conveniently blur the lines between facts and delusion. If you don't subscribe to their delusion, well, you'll be making another username/handle real soon.

I seriously doubt any actual sportswriter or opposing coach has used the words "thugs" or "monkeys."
Social media users in general saying it? 100% guaranteed. 2 different animals and 'they' don't like you differentiating the obvious difference. 'They' are what I call the double standards people. Basically they'll lie about anything to fit their delusional narrative.

That's why I say tread carefully. 'They' are thin skinned liars whos delusional narratives are easily obliterated with facts and they do not like that at all. If a sportswriter or coach used the words "thugs" and "monkeys" they need to be named or Dawn needs to STFU. It's that simple. Sour grapes / political correctness BS and that's 100% the reason I cannot stand DS. Will never, ever, support that woman.

She's basically the Dean Smith of WBB. Awesome teams but can't quite seem to win it all when it's there for the taking. We should have at least 2 more Nattys than we do. > Poor Coaching. ........ but you can't say that here or you risk getting banned. Me? I call a spade a spade.
