Did Frank Martin leave you explicit instructions not to play Josh Gray? I mean Vanderbilt has a goofy seven one white guy backing down your small defenders and taking over a game. You choose to leave Gray on the bench until 3 minutes to go in the game. He plays good defense, hustles and gets rebounds and has a heck of a lot better offensive presence than Verdonk. We get out rebounded a lot. Brown does a great job for his size but that’s about it.
I don’t get it.

Gray is a big kid who can rebound. He's not an outstanding defender. He fouls too much. He has few offensive skills. He isn't a good passer. But, he is improving. Its going to take time.

I saw where GG is projected as lottery pick in the 2023 draft, so the roster will take a hit next year.

Dawn Staley's first SC team was 10-18.
Dawn came with a strong reputation and a winner ... I do not know much about Paris, but watching our players continually hoist the ball up and seemingly having no offensive flow, I do not see us winning another game ... I hope I am wrong about Paris, but he gives me no confidence for the present or the future ... Dawn on the other hand, she commands respects from her players and they listen to her ... we knew that it was only a matter of a few seasons before she would turn things around and did she ever ...

Yes I agree with what you say about Dawn. Though Paris was not my first choice, what I said after he was hired, still applies today: a look at the job he did as a Head Coach finds that his team improved EVERY season he was there. Prior to that, he was an assistant under Bo Ryan at Wisconsin for 7 seasons, going to 2 Sweet 16s there, plus one Final Four appearance there along with a national championship appearance game there. There's a reason why Frank Martin was forced out of here. Thus, based on Paris track record as a Head Coach, his training under one of the best college basketball coaches (Ryan) around and what he inherited here from Martin, I'm willing to wait and give Paris a chance. I realize we live in a microwave society these days where we want immediate gratification. But, you can't always get what you want when you want it. Sometimes you have to be patient.

All fair and I am not one of those who are microwave driven ... at least I do not think so, but the caliber of players that Paris will have to sign are head and shoulders above what he had at UT-C ... is it fair to say that GG doesn't count since he is so close to home? Probably not because he did get him, even with the circumstances ... I recognize that this and the next two years will be very lacking and I hope I see improvement ... watching the game last night and watching 25+ foot shot attempts when we needed baskets was just depressing ... in any event, I do love women's basketball and have the Lady G's to cheer on ... thank you for responding and I appreciate your sharing ...

The problem is that some of the players that stayed aren’t very good, and almost every player that left was. Martin never was an elite recruiter. He got some talent, and developed players like Silva and Kotsar into pretty good post players.

Just as an aside, I don't know if anyone here remembers Tom Boswell. I was in school when he played for us. I always got a kick watching his reaction when he got called for a foul, which was often. It was worth the price for admission. LOL
He was better than anybody on our team right now.

Yeah Martin's recruiting was not stellar. He did get the occassional quality recruit. But, all in all, he was an indifferent recruiter. That's one reason I'm being patient with Paris, who was not on my"short list" on who I wanted to see hired.

They might as well shoot 25 footers. They can't make 8ft shots or layups.

In his call in show, last night. Coach talked about needing and trying to find players through recruiting who are more "skilled size" i believe was his term. Big people who can pass and understand the game better.

I wanted to fire Martin but you don't fire a coach and pay them 10 million dollars AFTER they go 18-13 with experience returning AND their best recruiting class coming in....THEN hire a no name inexperienced, unproven coach WHEN a proven winner that is also a gamecock is available AND then pay the unproven coach 10x his previous salary.

WE screwed this up every way possible. We will suck for for 4 years then will be doing it again.

At least we beat Clempson

FWIW, Frank has UMass at 10-4. They haven't had more than 15 wins in a season since '14-'15.

I agree. I didn’t like Martin’s sideline demeanor but I was not in favor of firing him last year. Wanted to see what he could do with what would’ve been a pretty talented roster. Think we jumped the gun on his firing

He lost to George Washington yesterday. The same team the board freaked out when we lost to them. Also Leveque and Woodley DNP.
