Just published at 2:31 p.m. in the State, if you can circumvent the paywall. Bama's search might be culminating. Forgive the .png files, which I did not insert.

Well, that's too bad. I like to see guys stick with what they're building.

If you can win at Bama, big deal? You SHOULD win at Bama. Much more impressive to win at Washington. But it's how the game is played.

I assume this give Rogers the opportunity to transfer and you'd have to assume he would.

Winning at Bama the way this generation of Bama fans are used to winning would be unprecedented for all but one bigtime successor I know of, Tom Osborne at Nebraska.

Interestingly, this gets Sexton the biggest pay day of all the rumored candidates as he was, by far, the lowest paid at around $4 million/year. Massive raise for him means massive raise for Sexton.

Which he will have earned, I feel certain. This is going to be very interesting.

I can't help but wonder how much chess Sexton was playing with all the rumored candidates, Bama and their current schools. All he cares about is how he can get the most money.

I don't think he's getting anything out of Dabo. Which is probably why he was the least talked about. But I do think Lanning, Norvell, and obviously DeBoer were very real options that Bama went hard after.

A lot of people get up in arms when a coach has one good year and gets a big raise and an extension. Washington didn't do that. DeBoer came in and took them from 4-8 to 11-2 his first year, and was still making $4.1M/yr. I don't know if it would have made a difference.

Time to put your big boy pants on. 10-2 at Washington gets you a raise and extension. 10-2 at Bama might get you fired.

it’s a solid hire. May be a bit risky going with a guy who only has two years of power five coaching experience, but may be the next Urban.

This guy has won at every level.

Pete Thamel gave chapter and verse a little while ago, and his conclusion: "Winning fits anywhere...this guy can flat out coach the game of football...one of the best offensive minds in the country".

I think he'll more than get by.

I believe his two year record at Washington was 25 -3 / 67 - 3 at Sioux Falls 3 seasons they were undefeated / 12 - 6 Fresno State shorten covid season.

That is very likely. Or he could join the very long and illustrious list of can’t-miss hires in the history of college football that missed.

I’ve been around too long and seen too many can’t-miss guy’s miss to keep track.

It’s a great hire. Maybe the smartest one they could make. But I will not be the least bit surprised if it doesn’t work out.

This guy has a better resume' than most of those you've seen bite the dust. And I'll say this: he's got the coaching gene. Read up on him a little bit. If Bama doesn't work out for whatever reason, he'll retire as a winner someplace.

I know as much about him as anyone else here. Just saying. Lots of guys have had the magic at one school, took the leap somewhere else and could replicate it. It’s quite a long list. Again, it’s a great hire. You just never know how it’s gonna work until you actually do it.

Just looked at his record as a Head Coach. Won 90% of his games.

Can you imagine if we hired a coach who won 90% of his games? They'd probably cancel classes for a week to celebrate.

A good comment however …

As the years have gone bye, I bet we have more students who are not interest in sports. A combination of foreign students and a higher percentage of women students. (NO, I’m not saying that all women are not interest in sports but many don’t care that much.) I could be wrong. What’s the stats over the years of students who don’t pay for athletics?

Are you kidding?? This board would say "most of his wins came at the D2 level, they don't count". lol

Well, Bama’s first SEC game next year is against potential #1 UGA, so it won’t take long to find out.

Great coach, strange fit. Remember Bryan Harsin at Auburn? Coaching ability is about 10% of the equation in that state - personality to navigate the administration, fans, boosters, alums, southern high school coaches, etc. is where the rubber meets the road. Also add in the ability to control today’s players - Saban had the juice to keep a roster full of 5-star prima donnas in line with a glare.

I don’t know anything about his personality, so on its face, it’s a slam dunk hire.

But remember Bryan Harsin?

Agree. Bama people are strange. They’re like TX people.

Why would he be doing that? I thought that Dumbo said that he had an interview and was first up??

Question for Deboer will be whether or not he can recruit as well as Saban. He was not noted for his recruiting prowess in Washington and he's walking into one of the hardest regions of the country to recruit in. Competition is fierce. The amount of talent Saban stockpiled in Tuscaloosa in his 17 years was insane. As one Bama journalist noted, Deboer won't get the "Saban discount" when it comes to recruiting. Nick Saban gets into any living room he wants anywhere in America simply because he's Nick Saban. Deboer will get some of that early on by virtue of being Bama's head coach, but he probably won't get 5* guys lining up to play for HIM just b/c he's Deboer like Saban did.

In the 10 years before Saban, Bama was 67-55 (39-41) so it's far from a slam dunk. Saban was just the right guy with the right personality. It was simply a perfect fit. Saban wasn't even really Saban before he landed at Bama and Bama really wasn't Bama anymore before they landed Saban. They were, at best, 3rd fiddle in the SEC to UT and UF, and maybe not even that high. They lost a bunch to Auburn...5 or 6 in a row?

It's a cinch he's not going to win 6 titles, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do with recruiting and that'll largely boil down to how much he's winning. Being in contention for the title nearly every single season for 15 seasons is what did it for Saban.

For those who question why someone would pass on the chance to coach at Bama, here is more ammo for your argument.
Nothing like having Nicky looking over your shoulder.

Ha, saw that. Of course Deboer says he's ok with it and welcome's Saban's input...what else is he gonna say?

Fans are fans. Things get off to a rocky start, maybe Year 2 or 3 isn't going quite as well as they want. Nick's still around...literally in the building. He looks spry getting around. Fans will start chirping for him to ride in and save the day.

"Hey Kalen...what's that group doing over there?"
"They're running drills, coach"
"OK...well...that's not the way I would do it. Uhhh....I mean, it's just not very efficient. But that's ok, you've got it under control, you're the guy. Ahhh......I mean, they could do it this way. Just sayin. Maybe it would be better, but your call. You know what, Imma just go over there and help them."
"Sheet".

Note that this was announced after the video of DeBoer's hilarious attempted announcement of his departure from UW to his players went viral.
