Winning at Bama the way this generation of Bama fans are used to winning would be unprecedented for all but one bigtime successor I know of, Tom Osborne at Nebraska.Well, that's too bad. I like to see guys stick with what they're building.
If you can win at Bama, big deal? You SHOULD win at Bama. Much more impressive to win at Washington. But it's how the game is played.
Which he will have earned, I feel certain. This is going to be very interesting.Interestingly, this gets Sexton the biggest pay day of all the rumored candidates as he was, by far, the lowest paid at around $4 million/year. Massive raise for him means massive raise for Sexton.
I can't help but wonder how much chess Sexton was playing with all the rumored candidates, Bama and their current schools. All he cares about is how he can get the most money.Which he will have earned, I feel certain. This is going to be very interesting.
I don't think he's getting anything out of Dabo. Which is probably why he was the least talked about. But I do think Lanning, Norvell, and obviously DeBoer were very real options that Bama went hard after.I can't help but wonder how much chess Sexton was playing with all the rumored candidates, Bama and their current schools. Thought the same thing, but winning will fix that.Good hire if it happens. The guy has won at every place he's been . The only question will he be a good culture fit.
I think we suspected it, inferred it, surmised it. But there's it has more legs when the national media runs with it.Didn't we already know they were in talks?
This guy has won at every level.Time to put your big boy pants on. 10-2 at Washington gets you a raise and extension. 10-2 at Bama might get you fired.
it’s a solid hire. May be a bit risky going with a guy who only has two years of power five coaching experience, but may be the next Urban.

That is very likely. Or he could join the very long and illustrious list of can’t-miss hires in the history of college football that missed. This guy has won at every level.
Pete Thamel gave chapter and verse a little while ago, and his conclusion: :Winning fits anywhere...this guy can flat out coach the game of football...one of the best offensive minds in the country".
I think he'll more than get by.
This guy has a better resume' than most of those you've seen bite the dust. And I'll say this: he's got the coaching gene. Read up on him a little bit. If Bama doesn't work out for whatever reason, he'll retire as a winner someplace. That is very likely. I’ve been around too long and seen too many can’t-miss guy’s miss to keep track.
Hopefully Beamers replacementThis guy has a better resume' than most of those you've seen bite the dust. And I'll say this: he's got the coaching gene. Read up on him a little bit. If Bama doesn't work out for whatever reason, he'll retire as a winner someplace.
I know as much about him as anyone else here. Just saying. Lots of guys have had the magic at one school, took the leap somewhere else and could replicate it. It’s quite a long list. Again, it’s a great hire. You just never know how it’s gonna work until you actually do it.This guy has a better resume' than most of those you've seen bite the dust. A good comment however …Just looked at his record as a Head Coach. Won 90% of his games.
Can you imagine if we hired a coach who won 90% of his games? They'd probably cancel classes for a week to celebrate.
Are you kidding?? This board would say "most of his wins came at the D2 level, they don't count". lolJust looked at his record as a Head Coach. Won 90% of his games.

Agree. Bama people are strange. They’re like TX people.Great coach, strange fit. Remember Bryan Harsin at Auburn? Coaching ability is about 10% of the equation in that state - personality to navigate the administration, fans, boosters, alums, southern high school coaches, etc. is where the rubber meets the road. Also add in the ability to control today’s players - Saban had the juice to keep a roster full of 5-star prima donnas in line with a glare.
I don’t know anything about his personality, so on its face, it’s a slam dunk hire.
But remember Bryan Harsin?
Why would he be doing that? I thought that Dumbo said that he had an interview and was first up??Just published at 2:31 p.m. in the State, if you can circumvent the paywall. Bama's search might be culminating. Forgive the .png files, which I did not insert.
For those who question why someone would pass on the chance to coach at Bama, here is more ammo for your argument.
Nothing like having Nicky looking over your shoulder.

"Hey Kalen...what's that group doing over there?"Ha, saw that. Of course Deboer says he's ok with it and welcome's Saban's input...what else is he gonna say?
Fans are fans. Things get off to a rocky start, maybe Year 2 or 3 isn't going quite as well as they want. Nick's still around...literally in the building. He looks spry getting around. Fans will start chirping for him to ride in and save the day.
Note that this was announced after the video of DeBoer's hilarious attempted announcement of his departure from UW to his players went viral. For those who question why someone would pass on the chance to coach at Bama, here is more ammo for your argument.
