Meh. It’s Costa Rica and who actually ships stuff via DHL?

There's no such thing as a good crash but that one could have been much worse. The pilot had the brakes locked up and it seemed like the plane was coming close to a stop. I have no idea if the veer to the right was intentional but it seemed continuing straight would have been the best plan unless the pilot was worried about running into whatever was off the end of the runway. And since there were emergency vehicles standing by, the pilots must have radioed in a problem. Regardless, there was no fire or explosion and the crash didn't seem bad enough to cause serious harm to the pilots.

Looking at Google Maps, looks like he was landing towards the NorthEast, and there appears to be a ravine at the end of the runway. He probably figured it would be safer to spin the plane rather than go nose first into the ravine.

🤦‍♀️ DHL is the largest air freight carrier in Europe. Many use them.
DHL has the contract to transport Bugattis for delivery around the world. You can't be a small fry and be able to get that kind of contract. The VW people would laugh you out of the building.

DHL is the largest air cargo operator out there. Although they don’t really have an airline, so to speak, they contract with other carriers who paint their aircraft yellow and operate on behalf of DHL. About 15 years ago, they had largely pulled out of North America. That trend has reversed and on any given night, Cincinnati airport sees more than a dozen 747s, at least as many 777s, a bunch of 767s along with 757s and 737s……..hey are back in the US to stay.

With respect to the 757 crash, he pilots notified departure control that the had a left hydraulic system issue and would need to return. Because the 757 is not equipped to jettison fuel, they lingered offshore to burn off some weight. Even at that, it would have been a heavyweight landing. It appears hat the brakes were locked at, or shortly after touchdown and I suspect the right main tires blew which is what caused the airplane to veer to the right. When they hit the ditch, he tail and one wing snapped off.
