and I'm sorry, but I think that's WAY overrated. We return a hand full of role players, and that's it. discuss...

Varnado will carry us early on and some of these guys will really step up really well. I can see us being top 25 during stretches this year easily. The loss of Hansbrough and Rhodes and Gordon will have early effects but we have stocked up enough talent to get past that. Varnada, Bailey, Stewart, Ravern and then augustus or Brian Johnson might fill the small forward. I expect big things from Osby and a Dee Bost. We will have a solid team.

Some of you guys are way underestimating how good a couple of the new guys will be.

I'm not going to rely on new guys, though I do expect them to do fine, but I feel comfortable next year based solely on Varnado. I think we'll be borderline to 7 seed NCAA.

Ha, I wasn't Bashing Stans in no way... I just am not sold on whether or not our freshmen, who I think will eventually be great, will carry us to the Tourney again. But I sure hope so...

where did Dickie V have us last year compared to how we finished? And seriously, when we the last time we added a bunch of new players and had a good season? I remember Jamonts 1st year- missed both tourneys...I remember the year after the FF- missed both tourneys...I remember the year after Smoke and group left- missed both tourneys...

just sayin...

and I don't think we'll be that good either. I just wanted to use that particular putdown.

because i think the West is going to suck...it may actually allow us to slip in a Tourney...

I think you are missing out we are returning better talent and more experience than Gordon's first year. And we got more talent coming in out of this freshman class. I don't think that years team had anywhere near the potential as this years does. We could easily ride in the top 25 this year if we do not lose Varnado in the regular season or preseason. If that happens than I don't plan on making as many trips to the games this year.

Also I believe these freshman are going to turn heads. Dee Bost has come around strong at the end of his senior year and Romero Osby has been the talk around the state for 2 years.

there is no way in hell we will be as good as we were this past year, and that team never made it in the top 25...Ricky is notorious for bringing along young players at a snails crawl, and that sint going to change this year...I dont see Osby starting a game the entire year over Vanardo, Johnson, or Johnson...and Bost will have to play his way to the starting role...and that will take time...

The top 25 is a pipe dream

We entered the year after losing all five starters. Power, Frazier, Campbell, Roberts and Ervin. Returning for that team were two sophs, Rhodes and Sharpe, who played extremely sparingly in their freshman seasons as well as JR Deitric Slater, who was that team's sixth or seventh man and juco sr. Jamall Edmonson along with Wesley Morgan.

This season, we return the SEC Defensive Player of the year and a junior guard who has started between 30 and 40 games in college. We also bring back a few guys who saw some minutes last season in Johnson, Bailey and Johnson. Are we in great shape, maybe not. But it's certainly not as dire as you feel the need to make it.

Stans didn't bring Gordon or Austin along slowly. And they're the only 2 newcomers he's ever had that compare to Bost. Bost will start immediatly and will make the freshman all-SEC team. You're right about Osby though, he'll take more time to develop.

that believes Osby is the most college-ready freshman we've signed in a few years. The guy was division 1 ready last year. I believe by the start of SEC, he'll be challenging for the starting job. That is, if he doesn't already have it. You have a guy who is 6-8 and can post up and shoot the three. I've watched him in person and he's big time.

necessarily ready from the go to play but this year is definitely a deeper team then the one of gordons freshman season. I really do believe we have potential to be a good ball club this year. But it is true about Stansbury and how he is slower to develop freshman than most coaches.

Osby shot 28% from the 3-point line in high school last season. If he shoots many 3's for us, he'll find his *** right back on the bench.

I agree Osby is the real deal...
He needs to work on his shot selection or he will be in Stans dog house.

If anyone is thinking Swat will carry us on offense, they need to think again...
He is a defensive specialist and if we rely on him to score we will be in big trouble.

Its not often I agree with you when it comes to basketball, but I agree wholeheartedly with this statement...

I think his scoring will increase, but no where near to the point where we can rely on him being a leading scorer night in and night out.

during the Memphis game set the tone. Everytime he came in the game in the second half our point production went up and we tied the game or were within 3 or 4 points of Memphis. And he was hitting shots just inside the perimeter. When he was out of the game Memphis would jump to a double digit lead or near double digits. Varnado will carry us in both aspects of the game unless the other guys show some fire in the early going.

I don't dispute he's a difference maker on the DEFENSIVE end of the floor. The game is obviously a lot different when he is on the bench. We got closer to Memphis when he came in because they scored less not because he put us over the top offensively. I'm not saying he's a terrible offensive player. He improved a lot over the season last year, but I just don't see him being a big time scorer for our team next year. I expect him to continue improving on the offensive end though.

as a Genespager...

"And he was hitting shots just inside the perimeter. "

Yeah, that 2-4 game from the field was huge for us wasnt it? Jarvis will be a 10/10 guy for us next year...nothing more...
