Veteran umpire apologizes for Bumgarner ejection
Umpire Dan Bellino on Friday issued an apology after ejecting Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner during Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins, saying that "while I can't go back and change what happened, I take full accountability."

The article cites a “fierce argument” between the umpire and the pitcher, but I see the umpire composed. What is the issue? Was the umpire deemed too quick to eject the pitcher? Was the umpire held responsible for poor timing of the inspection given that pitcher had an issue with another umpire during the inning?
As the article states, it is rare for an umpire to apologize to a player. I don’t see why the umpire apologized here.
