Do you think Deion Sanders can revive Colorado to Nat'l Champ Heights?

I don't know at this level. His fame and popularity will guarantee some talent. However, he seems to be a dictator. With these youngsters getting paid that approach doesn't generate good returns.

No. He may have moderate success, but when another more football centric school comes calling to make a splash hire, he’ll be gone and leave all the kids that followed him high and dry in Boulder.

No. I do not believe he knows anything about coaching. He will recruit on his name for a while but that will wear thin. He won’t be able to out-talent everyone unless Colorado puts together a massive NIL fund and I don’t think they will. He’s a borderline sideshow.

Reminds me of his stint with the Atlanta Braves, lots of attention. He has the name and the draw, keeping it all together is another thing.
Colorado has no where to go but up, but a lot of rungs on that ladder to go above mediocrity.

Let’s for argument sake say that he does, and it takes him only two or three years. ( I’m not rooting for it, only raising the possibility). That’s going to throw a monkey wrench into the time honored mantra that a coach needs four or five to install his system, culture and develop players. His use of the portal and NIL may really upset some treasured apple carts.

Tough to say how good of a coach he is based on his current resume. IMO (and I realize some will disagree) he’s one of the most overrated players I’ve ever seen play…he’ll need to be a much better coach than he was a player. Of course if he does turn things around in a hurry, the B1G could come calling for their next expansion. He’ll also need something like that to happen considering how hard it will be to continue luring the best recruits to a program in the depleted PAC12.

I doubt that Colorado will be able to compete NIL-wise against the big boys. $ talks.

That argument was prevalent when Mel Tucker had that great first year at MSU. And then…

Time to stop talking and make something happen. Put aside for a moment him jumping ship for greener pastures if he has some success. This year will be a tough one. The schedule is difficult. Open against TCU in Dallas. Then two rivalry games. Nebraska still considers CU a rival. They aren't good but they will be motivated to knockoff the Colorado Primes. Then in state rival CSU. Then nine Pac 12 games. Stanford and ASU are the only games where they might be favored.

Worse this team is almost all transfers so they have hardly played together. Expect some very sloppy disorganized football.

Coach Prime better be able to coach at a P5 level and his son better be the real thing at QB or it could be a long season. If not we'll see how long Deion's song and dance lasts.

Deion only cares about Dione and self promotion. Any type of success and he will take the next ticket out of town. He showed his stripe after all of the rhetoric about his support of HBCU and then dropped them faster then a prom dress and took his best players.

This has already been debunked. I’ve done the research - most coaches who win a NC do so in their first five years or fewer. And you will find fewer than five or so who did it after 10 years. It just doesn’t happen like that anymore. If you don’t win one in five, you likely wont (unless you take another job). New playoff format could change that though….

I don’t think so. JMO.

It’s still too early to really tell. He’s received a lot of PR for absolutely nothing other than his name and cutting 2/3 or so of his team. He literally hasn’t coached a meaningful or important game, yet Colorado fans think he’s just a step below Saban and they are a top tier team again.

I think reality hits Buff fans quickly with a possible 1-4 start.

No. I think in the past 24 years something like 10 coaches have won a NC, and only half of them are still active. If your coach isn’t named Saban, Swinney, or Smart, you’re probably not going to win one anytime soon either. Riley, Harbaugh and and Day after that, then Franklin and maybe Brian Kelly. Don’t know if anyone else capable unless/until Texas gets its sh*t together.

I wasn’t alluding to him winning a NC, just becoming a winning and competitive program in 2 or 3 years. Someone above referenced Mel Tucker at MSU as an example of how Sanders will fail. Actually while similar it’s not really on point.
Tucker made large scale changes, however nothing as vast as Sanders. Also Tuckers History as a successful coach was somewhat limited. That may also have been a contributing factor in his second year collapse.
Sanders completely gutted the program with very few players remaining, plus he made the gutting his calling card. He also was much more successful, albeit at a lower level. Ultimately Sanders maybe a coaching disaster, or as the attention grabbing ***** he is it might work.
All I’m saying is that if it works (a huge gamble for sure) it will change perceptions on how to build a program. I never said it was good, just a different approach that others may copy. But I just don’t think we can automatically declare his what many of us consider to be lunacy a failure for 2 or 3 years.

This. Praying for the Buffs to join the Big 10. I'll be not too far away for games.

How did I miss this? This is terrible news. So much bigger than football. I hope the surgery is successful. Good luck Deion! This deserves its own separate thread.
