Do you think we will really have the 2 mega conference model with all other schools just staying in NCAA?

This seems to be the continuing consensus for the media experts. We wind up with say two mega conferences of 24 or so each, and then have NFL style super bowl playoff. So that would make roughly 30% of current D1 in the mega conferences and 70% in NCAA (or some alternative). Interestingly, that would also seem to eliminate the NCAA from being litigated for anti-trust, as there would now be competition. For the schools that would be in the mega model, it would seem like FB would almost have to break away in some fashion with the $$$$ they get. Maybe they have to send some to the school for licensing the school brands, but otherwise they could run totally outside the school management. If they are going to comp players as employees, allow players to play independent of academic progress, etc - that would need to be totally outside the schools. Would there be a HS draft - taking away the freedom of players to attend a school of their choice (i.e. like NFL)? Would ND be forced to go mega, as they could be shut out of playing for championship?

This seems like the non/low revenue sports take a major haircut, or go club. Club is what several of the sports analysts keep suggesting. On ESPNU they were also suggesting relegation, like we see in Europe soccer. Would low FB brands be able to survive grandfathered over a better brand of FB school (i.e. is Oregon worth more to the BIG than Maryland)? Would Stanford be worth more than Rutgers?

Where do you see this going? Do you think it would be more entertaining? I have mixed feelings and am not sure where I am sending my donations to PSU athletics - to some NIL company or to PSU athletics or to neither and just to the Foundation.

Good question.....and i believe the answers you receive will vary based upon age. First....media experts are often lemmings...one person gives an idea and all others fall in line with that initial prediction....i discount the media. Second....what happens with Title lX? Lastly....i watch, support, contribute to the Nittany Lions because they represent my school. NIL and mega conferences will create teams constructed thru money buying players and zero academic component. Yes....i graduated prior to Y2K thus have my memories of Penn State based in the now old, archaic, system of student athletes....the game i loved and played is much like myself....old, tired, and life expectancy short lived.

It seems so . The networks are driving this and they usually get what they want .

Yes, that's the way I see it going. Just my opinion as I have no inside information. College football is already a sport of the Haves and Have Nots and with NIL it will only get worse. What I see is the Haves form their own conference, league or whatever you want to call it with their own broadcasting contracts. They keep the money and the Have Nots just do whatever they want to do.

This is the way I would do it if I were in charge. There is one conference or 32 or 36 teams. Let's call it the BIG SouthEastNorthWest CFNO (College Football in Name Only) conference. People talk about about 48 teams but that is too many. I don't see 48 teams out there willing to make a commitment to NIL to be competitive. At 48 we are adding teams like Colorado and Virginia and who? Boston College? They won't raise enough cash to be anything but perennial doormats so let's go with 36.

Thirty-six teams, that's four divisions of nine. The season is twelve games long. Six games are in your division with two games in each of the other three divisions. Eight teams make the playoffs, the four division champions and four wildcards. The wild cards are chosen by won loss record then tie breakers like strength of schedule just like the NFL. No polls. No Kirk Herbstreit with his eye test.

One more thing, there is an option to add a thirteenth game. What if there are teams out there who really want to play someone who is not in the CFNO league? Maybe Georgia wants to play Georgia Tech because they are a long time rival and the fans love it? Fine, schedule it but it is treated like an exhibition game. The result has no bearing on CFNO standings.

So eight teams make the playoffs. The first four games are scheduled at the division champion's home field. That means it is possible for a team like Florida to travel to a place like Ann Arbor, Michigan for a playoff game. The semifinals are held at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day with the Championship a week or two later.

See how easy that was? Of course there is a lot of politics involved to make it happen but I see it moving in that direction.
