We have lost two AD's both Miss State guys. I think both left under the current administration. Then he hired a guy who has no Miss State ties. Played football at Wake Forest but all his family are OU guys. I worry every hire by him going forwards will have some type of OU ties. Helping his buddies out.

Yes, I am down on Selmon and I question his ability to run the athletic department and make coaches hires.

We should have a statue of Fogelsong for firing LT. Replacing LT with Byrne was just a bonus.
One of my dad’s best friends is a retired Air Force Colonel. He has some VERY strong opinions about Doc’s professional career in the Air Force(they’re not good). As a University President, I think he did a nice job.

I don't know a single person from the USAF who has a positive opinion of Foglesong. But I’ll give him credit for sacking LT.
Search his name on the Air Force subreddit and you won’t find many positive posts, especially during his time as USAFE/CC. Apparently his wife was quite the dependa and thought she wore his stars. However, he was the right leader at the right time for MSU as the university definitely needed a leadership change after President Sleepy.

How did we luck up and get him? Too bad they ran him off. He hired Greg Byrne. That was a good duo for Mississippi State.
My understanding was he was brought in to "clean up" and it was known from day one it was not permanent. Whatever your opinion of him, he is directly responsible for us going to #1 in football. The Byrne hire was one of the best in school history.

He was horrible and would have run off all our professors and boosters if he had stayed any longer.
This is the absolute truth most of the professors in the CE department were not fond of him.

Every year we built a small scale steel bridge for a competition at the ASCE conference. It was small in relative terms and was usually 4' wide x 6' tall x 20' long. For parents weekend we would set the bridge up in front of Walker. Foglesong thought it looked bad and had facility maintenance remove it. When we showed up Saturday morning it was gone and we had to remove it from the scrap pile at the physical plant.

I'll say this, I wasn't a fan but he wasn't an excuse making pearl clutcher like we've got now. Outside of government dollars, the current one does very little for the Starkville campus and less for athletics. There's always an excuse.

It’s been almost 20 years so my memories of the situation isn’t good but at the time I knew people that knew him and how he operated and what they said was in line with this. He had a military background and was very “my way or the highway “ type. Some of that probably wasn’t a bad thing in the short term but I think it was having negative impacts the longer he stayed and a lot of boosters and alumni didn’t care for his changes or his attitude.

The funniest story my dad’s friend told me. Whenever he landed at a base in Iraq, Afghanistan, wherever, Doc wanted a band to be there to play “Wild Blue Yonder” when he got off the plane. I have no reason to not believe that. My dad’s friend is a great man. I wasn’t in the military, so I have no idea how outlandish that kind of request is, but that was always hilarious to me.

not exactly a ringing endorsement from that link

“if I were in a room with Osama bin Laden and Doc, and had a gun with two bullets in it, I would shot Doc twice! I was lucky as I served under two USAFE commanders who were worth their salt”

Meh. Regurgitated by the faculty in less than 20 months. The day he “resigned” the Faculty Senate was ready to issue a vote of “no confidence”

Poorly chosen battles over academic issues internally and silly issues like daffodils with women’s groups.

Foglesong’s hiring was symbolic of the highly dysfunctional nature of the IHL — and only the beginning of a series of blunders that have occurred to the present day

Likely our dad's friend was exaggerating to prove a point on that particular story. No bands in such places.

The man decided to fight a battle over the daffodils on campus, he was more interested in flying his plane over the football game than doing his job, you have to be joking?
No joke there at all. There was no fight over daffodils. Foglesong had them removed and a few people complained. Foglesong did a good job and worked very hard at it. He flew his plane over the the stadium a few Saturdays. That had no effect at all on his doing his job. Your comments are silly.
