Garrett still solid

Garrett, the nation's No. 15 rated quarterback by Rivals.com, made an unofficial visit to LSU last weekend and brought along Tupelo High teammate Chris Bumphis (5-11, 185) - the nation's No. 19 rated wide receiver - to visit with both coaches and players.

Bumphis has narrowed his choices to LSU and Alabama, Garrett said, but with the Tigers expected to receive a commitment Monday from Rayville wide receiver Kenny Bell the odds are that Bumphis may be headed to Tuscaloosa.

"The trip just reinforced things for me," said the 6-4, 220-pound Garrett. "I'm 100 percent committed and I'll be there in January (early December graduate) and looking forward to it."

It's been just over four months since Garrett switched his commitment from Mississippi State to LSU, creating a bit of an uproar in his hometown which is an hour north of State's campus in Starkville.

"It's died down for the most part," said Garrett, who passed for 1,478 yards and 9 TDs in 2007. "There are still some people that say some (negative) things. That's just motivation. They can say what they want, but it doesn't bother me anymore."
