Smith nearly cost the Bucs the game tonight. Saints 16, Bucs 10, less than a minute to go in the 4th quarter. brady hits Godwin for what should be the game-winning TD, but it’s called back for holding on Smith. Fortunately for the Bucs, brady came through with a TD throw with three seconds left. Bucs win, 17-16.

Donovan Smith should hold less.

I started focusing on Donovan Smith after the holding penalty that cost Godwin the TD. Smith held on all the subsequent passing plays, too. He comes out of his stance and throws his arms around the trunk of the DT/DE.

IMO he has his feet all messed up. He has that extended stagger for a stance. So try that, put your right foot forward, and you left staggered way back. Now try to move to your right. Kinda of tough isnt it. So when anyone comes inside, crosses his face, what else can he do but hold on.

He’s been a starter on a good team for a while. You would think he would have better technique. Is it a recent issue, maybe due to reduced mobility?

I think he may be playing somewhat injuried, I thought I read that somewhere, but they have had a ton on injuries on the OL they figure hes is better than a replacement.

I thought I heard on an early season broadcast that he’s allowed an incredibly low number of sacks. Sounds like it’s a tradeoff that’s part of the master plan.

They didn't call holding much at all the year the Golden Child won the Superbowl with the Bucs. The NFL has chosen to move onto the yoing new QB's and guys like Rodgers and Brady don't get the calls.

D Smith parlayed the SB season into a 3 year 45+ million contract.

Sounds like a misunderstanding given the impartiality inherent to NFL referees.

Bucs-Niners today. A game-tying TD for the Bucs was just called back on a holding penalty on Smith. When they mentioned the flag, I knew what they were going to call. 😞

I’m just glad Penn State fans will always point out the shortcomings of alums who play in the NFL. 🙄🙄
Smith opened himself up to criticism when he publicly bashed the coaching staff after he left.

As someone alluded to above, D. Smith was injured in the Bucs-Cowboys game (game #1) and he came back at less than 100%. 🤷‍♂️

Separately,
Bob, not to queue up one of your catch phrases :sneaky: :sneaky::sneaky: , but any comment about the 49ers current 35-0 lead with 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter that has even led to a change of the national coverage to another game?... ;)
