but here we are almost 2 years into Selmon, and I haven't heard a single positive thing about the guy. I mean NOTHING
Byrne hit the ground running and quickly got his "Ninja" nickname.
Strick wasn't the Ninja but got some things done that got some recognition and praise
Cohen, well, got a little praise and looked like a genius w/ Lemonis in '21
I realize it's not quite 2 years yet, but NO ONE that I have talked with connected to, employed in, or in any way involved w/ our athletic department has had anything positive or even nice to say about this guy. I hope I've just been talking to the wrong people.

Strickland sucked too, he was just an MSU guy and rode the wave Byrne had set in motion. He didn't really do anything. Guess he did hire Howland who stabilized the basketball program, at minimum. If Mullen had ever received a decent offer while Loaferz was there, he would have quickly teabagged him.

None of Selmon's predecessors had to deal with what he inherited including the Leach/Arnett situation with a coach essentially having to be hired due to the circumstances rather than a national search, the further transformation of college football into a business with success strongly contingent on financial resources, and the rise of the confederacy under the reign of general kiffin. I am not saying that Selmon has done a good or bad job. Honestly, I think it is still too early to tell and I also think it's unfair to base his performance solely or primarily on the last two years of our football program because there have been many uncontrollable situations during that time that have snowballed. Also, many if not most State fans were unhappy at one point or another with literally every single previous AD you mentioned and those who came before them. So, either our metric is unreasonable or we literally have never had a competent AD. My advice is give Selmon a little more time to judge his leadership because time will eventually tell.

Aren’t most sports generally trending upward other than the one everyone cares about? Most of the women’s sports are as good as they’ve ever been, men’s basketball is finally back, and guess we’ll see what happens in baseball this spring. But I suppose he also didn’t hire any of these coaches either, iirc

I have no insight whatsoever into anything. Just trying to say something good about the guy

Strickland also hired Rick Ray didn't he ( I honestly don't remember)? My understanding is / was that the hiring of Howland was taken out of Stricklands hands. This may or may not be true but it was the word around town when it happened.

None of Selmon’s predecessors were African American. He has to deal with that with his detractors every day
I’m sure there are people in the fan base who consciously or unconsciously feel that he was a diversity hire and hold resentment. I suspect that’s very few people. We’ve had some recent big donations, which is great.

What’s missing is communication about a strategic plan. If we give money, what’s going yo happen to it? What’s our competitive advantage? What are we doing to make that sustainable? Just please, please, please tell me SOMETHING

The job is too big for him. He and the other two from Oklahoma who are with him hate criticism. This is what Keenum gets for going the DEI ROUTE.

The second paragraph 100000%. He doesn’t tell us where we’re going and his plan to get us there. We just “are.” And guess what happens when there is a lack of sense of direction? Infighting, confusion, division, etc. all the stuff we are experiencing. If we all had a sense of direction, goals, dreams, etc. we could all get in there behind him and offer support.

Jeebus.

Say what you want about Stricklin's coaching hires, but the fund raising he accomplished was the greatest we have ever seen. His efforts gave us the Mize Pavillion, the Seal Football Complex, the North Endzone at DWS, and he spearheaded the Dudy Noble rebuild, although I think he left before work got started.

And, he got the SEC to let us ring cowbells at DWS.

I'm sure someone will say he wasn't really responsible for some of this stuff (except the cowbells, that was all him) but no AD works alone.
