Regarding the run up the middle against UT, he said the play call was not "run Juju up the middle." Just said it was a run play and Juju happened to be the back in the rotation at that time. He said Hardesty controls the RB rotation and Juju was just the one who was in for that run play.

My question: Can the OC and head coach not change up the RB rotation during the game to get the right player out there for specific situations? I understand you periodically rotate backs during the game to keep them fresh, but when it's a very situational and critical play call like that was, I would think Loggains or Beamer could interject and say who they want out there for the play.

The same kind of thing happened last year numerous times with Satterfield when he would talk about the use of Bell and why he wasn't used in certain situations. Several times he said Bell just wasn't in the personnel grouping they had on the field at that time. Each time I would think to myself "Well, you're the OC. Put him out there."

Are coaches this locked into having certain personnel on the field at certain times with no flexibility to change it up as necessary based on the situation?

They can, but they were trying to go fast and JuJu was already in the game. If they subbed him out UT would have been able to sub and they would have taken their sweet *** time doing it. It’s just one of those things where they thought they’d be able to get it just on tempo. And I can see that.

Sounds like Hardesty is on the way out, imho he has been very un impressive.

Marshawn Lloyd transfers 12/12/22, ok, things happen, what really matters is how Hardesty reacts to the situation and recovers.

My concerns, is once Lloyd transfers, you don't let a seldom used 6-2, 234 lb. running back that has been in the system for 2 years transfer to Miami of Ohio. (announced 1/1/23). You should be telling that kid you have an opportunity. You got a unique talent and ability to what we have left in the room and 2023 is your opportunity.

And maybe you let Amos transfer if you think you had somebody better but Dak is not better then Amos,

Hardesty has a strange way of evaluating running backs and a bad running back room for a guy that has been here since 2021, looks like Loggains just threw him under the bus as well on his evaluation on who should be used on what play.

It's not ALL negative. The Mario addition was a ++ portal pickup. The only question I had about him was did he have the speed to run with SEC Ds. He answered that, unequivocally.

They had a really, really good feeling about Diggs. They had already taken Mario. And they had Braswell coming in. And at that point they still had Carroll (he didn't step away until March 2023). I'm not a Hardesty fan, but he was a gnats *** away from improving the RB room even with the Lloyd loss:

JuJu
Diggs
Carroll
Mario
Braswell

I don't think anyone is upset over that RB room. So I don't blame him for Amos leaving. But at the end of the day, it's a results driven business, and the results of the last 3 years ain't good!

I agree its not all negative, correct on Anderson, and Braswell has promise, more my point is on Hardesty.

Hardesty raved about Anderson in the spring along with Dak, and as Loggains just said apparently has full control of the running back rotation, but did not really feature him until week 4?

Yeah, I agree with you. He's had his chance to make a positive impact and has failed to do so. That comment from Logg could have been some foreshadowing.

This also begs the question of why in world did you call that play then knowing Juju was your back? Is this really putting your guys in the best position to succeed? Sure doesn’t seem like it to me.
