All fair comments, and I don’t know if you’ve had time to read the full article yet or not, but it makes me very hopeful that it’s going to be something special.
From it, I learned that MSU’s ADDC has actually been around since 2014, but it’s been housed within our department of Education. During that short span of 8 years, it’s gone from servicing just 5 children to ~100/Wk, so I have to think that incredible support like this will only improve those numbers.
In addition to the clinic, this new facility will train both educators and specialists while promoting research, and just as you pointed out, one of the most important aspects of autism is improving our ability to identify it early. Hopefully, this department will be one of many more from around the world working together to make this happen.
Finally, something I found to be really cool but that could also be easily missed is that they will be offering special services to degree seeking children with autism in order help affected families realize that college does not need to be an impossible feat for those with autism and other developmental disabilities.
