We’ve been fortunate enough to have an autistic son that is high functioning and loving life, but for any parent dealing with any sort of developmental disability within their household, this means a heck of a lot.

Thanks for sharing, and I’m really looking forward to learning more about this project. We know so much more about autism today that we did even 10 years ago, and support like this will help so many children and families out there.

It will be good but the big question is how helpful will it really be?

As I've mentioned, I'm on the spectrum but I didn't know that I was until a little less than ten years ago.

Being undiagnosed Aspergers and functioning so well that most people didn't suspect that of me, I wonder if it will be really beneficial considering there are so many who are undiagnosed and disability resource centers only help those who are diagnosed.

So I wonder what sort of outreach will be done. If there's a lot, then it could be helpful.

If there's not a lot of outreach, then meh.

After all, I've seen what particular asses in this board have thought.

This is huge. Much needed for the school of Kinesiology. Also That building will add to the beautification of the campus.

All fair comments, and I don’t know if you’ve had time to read the full article yet or not, but it makes me very hopeful that it’s going to be something special.

From it, I learned that MSU’s ADDC has actually been around since 2014, but it’s been housed within our department of Education. During that short span of 8 years, it’s gone from servicing just 5 children to ~100/Wk, so I have to think that incredible support like this will only improve those numbers.

In addition to the clinic, this new facility will train both educators and specialists while promoting research, and just as you pointed out, one of the most important aspects of autism is improving our ability to identify it early. Hopefully, this department will be one of many more from around the world working together to make this happen.

Finally, something I found to be really cool but that could also be easily missed is that they will be offering special services to degree seeking children with autism in order help affected families realize that college does not need to be an impossible feat for those with autism and other developmental disabilities. A lot of cool stuff here

Just curious, but what led you to get tested for it? Perfectly fine if you say, "none of your @#R#@ business!".

Work.

I've long preferred folks to communicate directly to me and they would rather be more passive and hint around.

I had to get official confirmation (and ergo an official diagnosis) of what I privately thought so I can know what people want & be productive. Otherwise, they could talk to me in whatever manner they thought would be "nice."

Maybe it will be something special.

And it's certainly good for the children and families who have access.

But I know from experience that there are going to be a lot of underserved and frustrated students at MSU hailing from small towns throughout Mississippi and other states unless there's a *lot* of outreach done by the disability & Autism folks.

Curious, what’s is the Duffs connection to State? A quick Wikipedia view says the daddy was an OM grad and Thomas is a USM grad.

Lot's of good old stories about that old gym. Jack Cristil had a good one about his wife Mavis sitting behind him while broadcasting and telling Adolph Rupp what State was about to do to beat TN during a time out and they did exactly that. She had no idea who she was even talking too while she was sitting there knitting. Jack said he asked her later if she knew who that was and she said no. Jack told her it was Rupp and he probably knew more basketball than anybody in the entire gym. Mavis said "well I taught him something tonight" or something to that effect. There's also a good one about a skunk being set loose under the KY bench I believe it was.

Hate to see it go but its time, I walked by there a couple weeks ago during the week and took a close look, its getting bad. Windows broken out, concrete cracked, dirty, old, etc. They've done some interior renovations but the outside is bad.

Duffs are like John Grisham, they care about Mississippi. They've risen above all the egg bowl/anywhere-anytime smttt bickering.

And personally, the sooner we all realize that the state must grow together rather than fighting among each other (and let's face it football/school BS does play into political decisions), the better off we'll be.

and we have to demolish Dorman to make room. Right??
I think the powers that be just want to leave Dorman as a public eye sore for a joke now. Got all these other buildings being renovated and torn down and then you have Forman right there next to one of the most publicized areas of campus and it is still standing there ugly as hell

I guess because Dorman can be seen on TV. Is the reason it has become a lightning rod for the message boards?

Reality.... the facade of the building could be better, for TV. However there is about 6-8 other academic buildings and about another dozen projects that need to be upgraded/happen before Dorman.

Not to mention Dorman houses some pretty important labs. Hot takers aren't worried about things like that though, only about how it looks EmBaRrUsIn on CoLlEgE gAmEdAy and sEc NaTiOn

its because it’s a major backdrop to a prime area of campus It makes no sense not to invest in the aesthetics of it at a minimum.

In 07, my Business Ethics class was moved to Dorman because of the construction then in McCool.

We were in there a day and the instructor was like “hell to the naw”.

He evidently griped loud enough to get us moved immediately to McCain.

And that was in 2007.

The university is trying to get the ADA and HVAC renovated, which is much more important than facade, but as someone else mentioned the labs make that renovation extremely expensive even if you can’t see much improvement to the blind eye. The cost keep going up and up and the funding stays the same
