They may play at the Durham Bulls ballpark. The Bulls are on the road until next Tuesday, so timing works.

ETA: NM. They are playing at Coombs Field

LOL.. 17 off... OM just lost to Murray State when they could've hosted Duke for a CWS trip!
I know. And I was cheering and laughing when the center fielder caught the final out. But baseball stadium smack talk annoys me. It’s like OM bragging about the grove. Hopefully O’Conner will have some teams that we can brag about so we don’t only have to brag about the stadium.

To be fair, those are older pictures. Duke did a renovation of their stadium this past offseason.

That is actually a standard college baseball stadium. We heavily invested in facilities in a sport that loses money every year. Not exactly something I care to dick measure
Our football program is akin to the wnba, it wouldn't be in the black without the subsidy from the league. I don't believe we have a sport that's above water.

What the 17 are you talking about?

Only 10 teams in the country have more NCAA appearances. Only 12 teams in the country have more CWS appearances.

Plus, we have a natty in the past 5 years.

And we have the nicest, biggest, 17ing stadium in all of college baseball. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of that.

I have no problem with Duke hosting Murray State in a super, but there should be higher standards for hosting regionals. For example, UCLA's average attendance in 2025 was 636. That should be disqualifying.

My policy would be to give host sites to the teams with the highest attendance among the top 32 in the RPI, even if you make them the 2-seed.

Apply that policy to this season, and these are the hosts:
Florida, TCU, Alabama, and West Virginia would have replaced Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Oregon, and UCLA.

College baseball would make more money if we catered to people who care. This "grow the game" strategy of playing baseball in front of a few hundred people who don't care isn't working.

Not only would the NCAA tournament make more money at the gate, it would look and sound better on TV. A better TV product means better ratings and more money.

You would think college sports would understand what they are selling. College sports aren't popular because of the level of play. If that were the case, no one would watch college football. We would watch the NFL exclusively. College sports are popular because people care about their team, school, state, etc. In the case of college baseball, some parts of the country care a lot while others don't care at all. It's a waste of time and money to cater to fan bases that don't care.

Why do we have fans that get so annoyed at the state fans who take pride in our baseball program?

As long as we continue to have “fans” who say we need to allocate most of the resources/NIL to baseball (in lieu of football) I will continue to counter that insanity.

I’m sure some find it crazy to point out baseball is a niche sport that doesn’t generate money. But to suggest we shouldn’t be 110% invested in football is suicidal for Mississippi State University. The reason we have the big shiny new baseball stadium is because we are a part of the SEC. The reason we exist in the SEC is because we have a football program.

We are the only SEC school who has a portion of the fan base that says dumb stuff like “we need to go all in on baseball because it’s the only sport we can compete in.” No coincidence we have struggled off and on in football historically. It’s low IQ.

Then you need to make the people that have the money donate to football or go convince John Deere to be a sponsor and drop $100 mil on our program because that’s what it will take and what we’re up against. It’s nothing more than a bidding war and we have a small chest.

We literally just had a $60MM investment in our football program. I’m sorry to disappoint you with this news.

For the umpteenth time, NO... it's not at all like that.

The grove is a fan gathering and picnicking spot before and after games. It has absolutely nothing to do with an actual game - in fact, some people think that it detracts from their game atmosphere because of all the dipshits in bowties who don't actually go to the games but sit in their tents and sip cosmos instead of cheering the team on.

Dudy Noble Field is an actual arena where competition happens. Fans actually attend games there, where our team is playing, and cheer for them. In fact, we hold something like 24 out of the 25 largest on campus attendance records.

Us bragging about DNF would be more like Michigan bragging about the Big House holding 108,000 football fans or whatever - which is actually impressive - than it is to comparing it to the grove.

...and with that 60, we present to thee.....3 wins. Yay us.

You are anticipating a 3rd win this season instead of last years 2 I see.

We are 1 play away (Shapen injury for the 3rd consecutive year) from having either a true FR at QB or a FL St RS FR transfer that made his first start on 11/23 of last season as a true FR. Shapen's record as a starter is just 11-16 too. We also have the same DC.
I'm hopefully but don't have much optimism

We wouldn’t be in the league if we didn’t play football. Dudy Noble Field wouldn’t be what it is without football.
