Dumbest call I have seen since Croom.

At least Tomlin had Ben and Mike Wallace to bail his *** out of the prison that the Steeler fans would have wanted to throw him in.

First that family(name I cant recall) that owns the team is too loyal and believes in not rocking the boat, especially when he just won the SB, in far fewer years than it took Cowher.(although he inherited a better team than Cowher probably did).

An example of a coach making a decision knowing he was going to get fired is Coach O going for it on 4th down at midfield. (although we hadnt been able to stop them most of the day anyway.)

Give me 8 years of making the playoffs as a wild card and losing in the first round. I'll take that any day.

Not to mention that from 1969 to 2006 the Steelers have had only TWO head coaches. The Steelers are the one team that I see as the least likely to quickly pull the trigger on a coach.

That'd be the Rooney's.

If the Pack had had to go the length of the field on their TD drive, no way Pittsburgh would have had time to score.

...or at least that's what I'd be saying if I were Tomlin.

...one of the dumbest calls in all of college football this past season was when Mullen called the fake punt vs. Florida.

There were others, like going for the 4th & 12 vs. Ole Miss. Of course, that's one is forgotten, because it resulted in a fluke touchdown.

It's amazing how Mullen is such a god on this board, it's almost against the rules here to mention the several dumbass calls he made this past season.

As far as the 2009 season, I'll give Mullen a pass due to him being a HC for the first time, but next year he has got to show a little more common sense if MSU is going to have a winning season.

of the most idiotic things to say and post them.

The dumbest call in the history of mankind is punting from Georgia's 30 on 4th and 2 when not 3 plays before, we went for it on 4th and 1 from Georgia's 44.

It's not as hard for him as it would be for most.

The fake punt was a perfect call. Robert Elliott just fell down on his own. The call against OM was also a good call because we had a kicker with limited range. The best part of that call was the defense had already made its substitutions and did not have the right personnel on the field. When they realized that our offense was still on the field they had no idea what to do. One of my favorite dumb calls was the 4th and 15 aginst AU in the 3-2 game. The only way we were going to win that game was blocked punt or a turnover. Another one that I could not agree with was late in the LaTech game we had the ball 4th and 5 on right around the 50 and punt. After the AU game was when I gave up because you do not go for it on 4th and 5 against LaTech and the next week you think that you can make 15.

Is it too early to begin a list for the DDDY of 2010 or can we get him in on this year's nominations?

..policy where the dumb **** Mullen pulled this past season must not be discussed, then tack that demand to the top of the board.

Mullen is now our coach & he chose to fake a punt in MSU's own territory against the #1 team in the nation. If any other SEC coach pulled something that stupid, this messageboard would be all over that coach.

Then there were the times Mullen refused to toss the red flag (vs. Houston; vs. LSU) which could have turned games in our favor.

Then, as mentioned, the incredibly stupid call of going for it on 4th & 12 vs. Ole Miss. With our offense, that play had about a 3% chance of being a success. Fortunate for us, the odds were bucked & a touchdown occured.

Your messageboard would better serve this community if this constant, ignorant Croom bashing was called to a halt.

Croom had his flaws, but the guy has been gone for well over a year. You & your hysterical anti-Croom denizens just drive how the point how mind-boggling stupid the MSU fanbase is.

but to claim that his errors were greater than Croom's is beyond ignorant.

...be discussed here discussed ad nauseum, because you & the board monitors will not allow it. That thread would get locked real quick.

All I know is Croom never tried a fake punt in his own territory vs. the #1 team in the country. (Florida being ranked #1 in the country when we played them).

Even Meyer acknowledged after the game that he thought Mullen was "trying to win the game" with the fake punt call. Isn't that the whole 17ing point? It was a risk, yes, but a calculated one. When you consider the whopping 3 offensive points we put up, you can somewhat see Mullen's thinking behind the call. And if you can't, then I can't help you.

Also, against Ole Miss, it was 4th and 9, not 4th and 12, and I think we were just inside the 40. That kind of forces you to go for it.

for all the reasons given by others. But they have been a huge disappointment this year for sure.
