According to the toxicology report, two separate samples taken from Haskins' body had alcohol levels of .20 and .24, both of which are above the legal limit in Florida of .08. According to the report, Haskins also tested positive for ketamine and norketamine, drugs that are used by medical professionals as anesthetics but that also have been known to be used recreationally.

I had kind of expected something along those lines.

A drug and booze problem certainly explains a lot about how this "immense" talent never fulfilled his potential and whose final act was tragedy.

Maybe his car running out of gas (assuming that part is actually true) saved some other lives. Gil Brandt was destroyed for his comments being tone deaf, but he might have been pretty accurate even though the number-retiring fanbase didn't want to hear it.

What stood out to me is there was 2 separate wakes because his parents never met his wife.

Why is it called “legally intoxicated”? Shouldn’t it be illegally intoxicated? Legally intoxicated would be under .08.

As far as what I read he was walking to get gas. I don't think it's illegal to be intoxicated above .08 if you are walkiing. It's illegal to drive a vehicle in Florida. So by law he was over the limit, but 'at the time' of his death was doing nothing illegal. Semantics of course.
Also, a legal term which could have implications elsewhere, such as, life insurance, contracts, etc.

Not to be a prick, but it’s possible he was jaywalking. That would be illegal.

Yes. If he had done some 'jay's' as well as those things listed, he'd be guilty of jaywalking; but, only if it was recreational and not by prescription. Semantics of course. Not to be a prick.

Didn't it happen at like 7:00 on a Saturday morning? That is is some hard partying from the night before.

I always tell myself in these cases that the person involved was someone’s friend, husband, father, son, etc. So nothing but sadness for those who are impacted by his passing regardless of circumstances. RIP and condolences to his loved ones, it’s such a shame.

No. There's nothing wrong with someone of legal age being intoxicated. It's not illegal to be intoxicated. What's illegal is doing certain things, while being intoxicated, and that determination of what is and is not intoxication is a legal definition ... so, "legally intoxicated."

I allegedly blew a 0.11 walking in Iowa when the limit was 0.10 and was cited for public intox. Funny thing is the deputy showed me and 3 other LE folks the breathalyzer reading 0.00 before I blew, but never showed anybody else the final reading. Also, they didn’t take the reading on the street but rather at the station 40 minutes later. I had just chugged the last 16-20 ounces of our pitcher at last call, so even if the 0.11 was legit I was probably 0.07 or so when they first flagged me.

I quit drinking for 10 years after that, thinking they wouldn’t try that crap when I was 0.00.

Iowa is the worst state in the union.
