Please use this thread for all pre-game, in-game, and post-game discussion of the 2024 Eagles - Steelers game.

I've liked the Steelers since the '70s and since they are in the Commonwealth but in the AFC, I root for them in general, except when they play my Eagles. Plus, there is the history (before my time, but perhaps @fairgambit was around for it) of the Steagles for one season during WW II. So I hope it's a good contest, and I invite Steelers fans to participate, but make no mistake about where my rooting interest is today.

Go Birds!!!

That was a crazy game back in 2000. I recall that was the year the Eagles blew out Dallas in the pickle juice game to start the season.

They then kind of teetered a bit before that miracle comeback victory against the Steelers. After that, they played much better and started the great run under Andy Reid.

I do recall thinking that we had no chance after the Steelers kicked that late FG. And also worrying if Akers (and the FG unit) could get the kick off before time ran out.

Birds with a nice drive, but have to go with a 34-yard FG attempt when they bog down .

Elliott makes the kick, so it's 3-0, Birds, with 9:56 left in the 1st qtr.

Steelers D is the real thing. This was an important stop for Pittsburgh, I get the impression they’re not all that great at playing from behind.

ugh, Hurts fumbles it while scrambling to try to get to the sticks on 3rd down. Steelers recover. Birds' O was moving again, but this doesn't help the Birds

Steelers take over at the Birds' 45

ugh, Cooper DeJean rumbles on the punt return, and the Steelers recover at the Birds' 11

The Birds' are dominating, and yet they are killing themselves

3rd & 18 ...

Wilson throws it out of the endzone, so the Birds' D holds for a FG attempt.

Chris Boswell with a 37-yard FG attempt, and it's good.

3-3, with 3:42 left in the 1st qtr

Turnovers are the one thing the Eagles can’t afford today. They were lucky to only give up 3 there.

Hurts is still shaky. Can he respond or will he clam up?

I agree about not being able to afford turnovers.

As for Hurts, I wouldn't call him shaky. He was stopped, then trying to squirt free and pick up the 1st down, and just got caught by a nice play by Watt. Other than that, he's been quite good today. Sometimes, you just have to give credit to the other team's players.

2 passes to A.J., and the Birds are to the Steeler's 34, after starting on their 30

Is Gainwell the regular 3rd-down back?

not really. He spells Barkley periodically. There was some thought preseason that the Birds thought Gainwell was the better blocker, so he might be in a lot on 3rd & long. But (without the data in front of me) does not seem to have been the case throughout the season.
