For those of you who were interested in this, the fight continues. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I see no reason why the FBI would cover up the discovery if it happened. Just because a finder's fee would have to be paid?? That would be a drop in the ocean to the feds. In fact, I see it as being the opposite. If the FBI did find gold, it would be great PR to publicize a significant historical find. There's no reason to cover up something from 150+ years ago.

I believe I shared this story before on the rivals site. Back in the 90’s I used to belong to a hunting camp near the Elk and Cameron county line (Driftwood). One of the guys was fishing in elk county and bumped into an author who was researching for a book about a lost gold shipment from the civil war. We thought is was pretty far fetched but I guess it may be true.
