Eric Clapton is playing at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Friday, September 8th. I am fully committed to going to the concert and have set aside a certain amount to get tickets. The amount is not important, but for the price I can get 2 very good seats for my lovely wife and me, or I can get 4 lesser seats and take another couple (dear friends) with us. My wife says the decision is mine. What would you do?

Enjoy it with the friends as well. The music will sound basically the same regardless of the seats, and you'll forge some lifelong memories with friends.

Saw Eric sept 2021 in Nashville. It was great. It was better being with other fans we know. Take the other couple. Or suck it up and buy 4 good seats. One of the best things was Clapton brought in Marcus King for the encore. Unbelievable

Eric Clapton ....worst concert I ever went too. Probably around 92 or 93. When he decided he didn't want play rock music anymore.......but bluesy slow or tear jerker music. Not that he isn't an amazing talent.....but he's going to play what he wants to play......not necessarily what you want to hear.

That is a very good point. I've been leaning that way. Mrs. Gambit suggests just spending more (lots more for 4 together) and getting good seats for all of us. I may go that route. After all, Clapton is 78 (how many tours does he have left?), and this tour is very limited (6 cities, starting in Pittsburgh and ending in LA). We'll see.

Mrs. G likes the 4 good seat idea.

A fair point, but fair (me) will likely enjoy whatever he plays. As a 70+ year old guitar player of just 4 years I want to see one of the very best before one of us is gone.

Why can’t your friends buy their own tickets? Are they not capable of paying for them or do they not want to pay for them?
Personally, the prices of tickets to concerts these days are insane. I don’t know if I’ll ever spend money on another major one.

Through 30+ years we've gone to many events with them and its generally been a situation where the couple that asks, pays, regardless of cost. "Hey Fair, Martha and I are going to the Penguin game next Tuesday. Would you and Mrs. G like to join us?" (and they pay). The invite includes the cost of dinner, etc. No one is keeping score but it seems to have pretty much evened out over time.

Take the two tickets for you and the wife and let the other couple fend for themselves.

Saw Eric about 1974 in D.C. My old girlfriend called and asked if I would like to go….Hell yeah! He had another guitar player with the band who played some of the lead but still very good concert.

Consider yourself lucky that you have friends that are that dear to you and get good seats. I have very few friends i would drop that kind of coin on...cherish those types of relationships.

Life is a personal journey made better by the good people that you have been fortunate enough to have around you. Glad to hear you've decided to take your friends, that would have been my choice as well!

Much depends on if the friends are Eric Clapton fans and if they enjoy going to concerts. If you can answer yes to both then you know what to do.

Gotta tell ya, I really hate these giant venues. I saw Sheryl Crow, Port the Man and a few others this summer on a giant stage. It felt like the bands were stealing money. I saw built to spill with son2 with 2000 people and it was epic.
I think the only giant venue act I would enjoy is on the floor at MSG for lcd soundsystem

Fair, my wife and I would like to go with you and your wife. You can use the very good seats and we'll take two of the lesser seats. Attorneys assemble for pre- and post-show libations.

Blues have always been Clapton's first love and interest. He outgrew hard rock a long time ago.

Idk Farigambit..... ain't nothing like being up close as possible. Throw in that it's Clapton and it's a no brainer for me. I think your bigger quandry is praying Clapton "makes it" to the show.
