This would be an "all in" situation - a divorce settlement with no shared custody and no visitation rights. Can you discontinue NCAA membership in football while keeping it for the other sports?
Nope! Can you discontinue NCAA membership in football while keeping it for the other sports?
Probably.....but ALL the legal issues that currently hamper the NCAA would follow. If that happens would the SEC and B1G merge to form a super league?
The only issue they’ll have is that they’ll still need rules, and still need a body to enforce the rules. So they’ll basically have to form their own NCAA (which is odd because the NCAA was already formed by the schools to enforce the rules they agreed upon). And then I guess everyone can start calling the “new” NCAA garbage as well.
They will still need rules. But they're currently governed by rules that have to make sense for SW Missouri Valley State as well. Go look at the NCAA governing board. ZERO athletic representation from FBS schools/conferences. The 2 P5 representatives are university presidents. I'm not going to get political about what university presidents allow on their campuses, but suffice it to say, that population group has shown a propensity to make stupid decisions that are not helpful. There is an employee in the Philadelphia Eagles organization on the NCAA governing board, but no one from the SEC/B1G?The only issue they’ll have is that they’ll still need rules, and still need a body to enforce the rules. I have a feeling they would be geared up to deal with those going in. There would be a fresh approach.Probably.....but ALL the legal issues that currently hamper the NCAA would follow.
To antitrust suits and probable employee status of student-athletes? Doubtful....very doubtful. It may help the NCAA more in defending its amateur status....especially if the Big 12 and ACC join the other 2 conferences. But most of the issues that the NCAA is dealing with arose from monertary windfall and other concessions to the demands of those 4 conferences.I have a feeling they would be geared up to deal with those going in. There would be a fresh approach.
