valid question. The real question...doesn't anyone really care about the Emmy's anymore?
I haven't watched an award show of any kind for at least 25 years. This story diminishes them even more. The real question...doesn't anyone really care about the Emmy's anymore?
I had the same questions. What a weird thing to do.
How does that work though? The network just asks for Emmys and they get them? Don't follow the awards stuff, but I thought they were voted on or something for a certain individual. They submitted fake names and the fake names won? Doesn't make sense. Nobody bothered to check if the name was even real before they awarded that person an Emmy?

My understanding was that they offered 5 names instead if 3 or 4, for a category that they won. They then took the extras, re engraved them, and gave them to other people.
Exxxxxxactly!Looks to be a "trophy generation" approach. Gave fake awards to on-air talent simply to make them feel like they'd accomplished something.
Guess we should not be surprised. This is how college sports, football in particular is going. Can't make the title game? Ok, we'll make a 4- team playoff so you can say you made the playoff. Can't make the 4-team playoff? Ok, we'll expand it to 12 teams so you can say you made the playoff.
So ESPN wins Emmy's for a particular category and then they submit the names for the people in that particular category and they all get an Emmy?
NOThe real question...doesn't anyone really care about the Emmy's anymore?
The only question is, who was the teacher and who was the pupil, ESPN or CFB.Exxxxxxactly!
As for playoffs, make no mistake, this is all about a power money grab. There are no other considerations.Looks to be a "trophy generation" approach. Gave fake awards to on-air talent simply to make them feel like they'd accomplished something.

After watching every professional sport, the lower FB divisions, and CBB expand the playoffs, the analytics of bigger revenue would be impossible to ignore.
Now that makes sense in a sick kinda way. Ironic that a network that brings us competitions would stoop so low in a competition. My understanding was that they offered 5 names instead if 3 or 4, for a category that they won. They then took the extras, re engraved them, and gave them to other people.
Of course that is how they were going to sell this product. No question money is the factor, but that's not how they actually sold it. They sold it on the notion that more teams get to be in the playoffs. The motivation and the selling point were completely different.
Now the reality is there will be non-contender teams from this season who are not at all improved next season but still make the 12-team playoff and, though they are not improved over last season, can now boast of "making the playoffs", even though nothing's actually changed.
Boomer parents created the trophy generation.Looks to be a "trophy generation" approach. Gave fake awards to on-air talent simply to make them feel like they'd accomplished something.

Actually, Gen X created that.Boomer parents created the trophy generation.
Since we're talking about the EMMYs, let's just say you're not alone.
