Am I the only person that can't stand Tony Kornholer as a football announcer? I know he's completely knowledgeable about the game, but I just can't stand his commentary style.

the thing is, I do like him on PTI. He and Wilbon have some good chemistry. But he's godawful on MNF.

Who would you like to see replace him? I don't care for him either, and I don't know why MNF has felt the need to have a "common man" in the booth- like Dennis Miller a few years ago. Who would have been good if I understood 20% of his jokes.

If they're determined to have a 3-spot in the booth at MNF, they could and are doing a lot worse than Dennis Miller. I enjoyed what he had to offer, but I was a Miller fan since his Weekend Update days.

The problem with whoever they put in the third chair is that makes at least one more person than they need in there at all, and lots of times they seem to have four, the fourth being an athlete or guest of some sort. It's like they're trying to have a male version of The View during a football game. One good play-by-play guy and a color commentator who talks 15 percent of the time would be plenty. That's what worked so well for us back when Jack could see the field, and part of what makes our sideline reports from what's-his-name roll like hind tit both then and now. A highly-competent play-by-play guy doesn't need much help. Any other kind of play-by-play guy can't benefit from any amount of it.

Yeah, it is like Kornhieser is using Miller's schitk and adding his football knowledge. I don't know why MNF or Kornhieser think people want to hear that.

Along those lines, I don't understand why MNF feels they need to entertain the audenience with commentators and guest. Are we, as Americans, getting to the point that football has become boring too and we need entertainment to supplement the game? Judging by the thread, I don't think so. TV/national media is out of touch with the common person in this country. They have no clue.

It feels like they're trying to market MNF to absolutely as broad an audience as possible, no pun intended, gathering the hardcore with great HD of the action, the casual fan with the color and the peripheral fan and stray passer-by with the color-on-color or complete non sequitur from the likes of Miller, Limbaugh and now Kornhieser. The latter always seems like an unnecessary third-wheel because they are, but they're a product of the seller perpetually reaching for more. Stand by for Star Jones in the booth somewhere down the line.

is why he acts like such a dumbass on MNF. On PTI, although he can go on a ridiculous rant every now and then, it's obvious that he has a lot of general sports knowledge. However, when he gets on MNF, he completely changes and just acts like a goof. I wonder how much of that is him and how much of it is ESPN trying to create his character.

Anyway, between the two, I would have actually rather had Wilbon on the show than Tony. He's a little more level headed and to be honest, I'm not interested in hearing jokes during a football game.

I'm old enough to remember Dandy Don's second stint on MNF. That was one crazy laid-back SOB there. He liked to get Cosell all worked up just because it was so easy to do. Gifford was the only voice of sanity in that broadcast booth.
