at least one of them didn't like it because it takes the dream away for teams in the West have to play for the championship in Indy. They talked about teams like Wisconsin, Iowa and NW have played for championship and teams like Illinois have threatened to get there. With no divisions and now UCLA and USC joining life becomes even harder.

My question is why do we care about the teams in the West having a dream alive. Have they every won the championship?

For that matter, what about the dreams of Maryland, Indiana or Rutgers?

Who was hosting the show, Cindy Alvarez and Mary Ferentz?? The west schools have benefited from these stupid divisions for decades. Anyone who feels that way is probably also a huge fan of the “everyone gets a trophy” movement.

If the B1G drops divisions, doesn’t “league scheduling” become the biggest determinant of success?

We are about to see some clever “league scheduling” take place once the CA schools join the conference. We probably can’t imagine what the BIG goons have up their sleeves.

Why doesn’t the Big just say that Ohio State and Michigan play for the Big Title every year. Just think of the ratings for “The Game” when it was for the title every year?

The Board could figure this out in less than an hour. You want to keep divisions? Fine, keep them. But have some backstop that (2 divisions for illustration only) the winner of the division does NOT automatically play in the title game if they are unranked, below a certain ranking, etc if the other division has multiple teams with higher rankings. The Big scheduling can be screwy when certain teams (Iowa) might not play certain of the better teams during the year and have inflated ratings but this could be figured out without too much difficulty.

Wait till USC and UCLa come in and realize they didn't join the Big Ten, they joined the Big2! They will be wishing they stayed in the Pac....

Disney/ESPN has invested heavily in the SEC and CFP and would like nothing better than to see four SEC teams in the playoff. That is why they would like the B1G to keep divisions.

We'll probably start our league schedule at home every year against Indy or Rutgers after the first 3 cupcake OOC teams, then @USC and @UCLA. Hey, but at least we start the league at home.

I will bet a beer when USC and UCLA are in, 2024?, PSU will open up in California. On a Friday nite at 10 pm!
Wrong - Thursday, 8 PM local time Start.

Then, PSU has to play the other California team the very next Saturday at 8 AM local start.

Then PSU plays at Nebby, followed by at Minny.

Then PSU is deemed inelgible to continue to play that season.

I agree with the presupposition of your question. What we have to remember is that shows on TV must create some kind of tension or debate regarding the issues they bring up because they want people to watch. So, pundits will always find an angle on a particular topic to raise the tension. And sometimes they're just reaching.

That's a weird take by them although the point of those shows is to generate buzz so people watch. Eliminating divisions would make the CCG participants earn their way. There's a very real possibility of a four-loss team playing for the Big Ten title this year. That's not good for the perception of the conference. But if the ESPNU guys really want the possibility of a feel-good underdog story, maybe the CCG should pit the B1G East #1 vs. B1G West #7. You never know what could happen.

I'm not so sure those two joining is a done deal. I think the California Regents were to meet this week and could put the stops on UCLA moving. If UCLA is stopped from moving, does that give USC pause or does the B1G work toward bringing in USC, UW, Oregon and possibly Utah to ease the transition? Then the rest of the PAC12 can fend for themselves. As has been rumored, Stanford has no interest in moving to the B1G and is not thrilled about NIL.

Stanford isn't interested until Larry Page and Sergey Brin open up their wallets for NIL then they will be all for it... ;)
