Even IF you don't look like a floating seal to a shark you can still encounter a medical condition while simply surfing!

Bull sharks are one of the few sharks that can swim indefinitely in fresh water.

In the spirit of The Glov……

On September 25, 2000, 19-year-old Kevin Hines tried to kill himself by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. He fell more than 220 feet to the water below, slamming into it at 75 miles per hour.

The impact shattered three of his vertebrae and came within two millimeters of severing his spine — yet he somehow survived. And when he realized he was still alive, he was immediately overtaken by an overwhelming will to live.

However, the weight of his clothes kept dragging him down below the surface of San Francisco Bay. For what felt like an eternity, he barely managed to resurface for mere seconds at a time and breathe just enough air to cling to life.

Then, he suddenly felt a strange force from below pushing him up above the water, where he stayed until the Coast Guard eventually came to get him. Only later did he learn that eyewitnesses had seen the mysterious force that had been keeping him afloat: a sea lion that was propping up his body until the rescue boat arrived.

Actually, when my wife and I were in SF, the guy driving the tour bus said that some of those that jumped do share the same story of being saved by sea lions.

Wow....another kid lost a leg to a shark. This time at Looe Key in the Lower Keys.

Been snorkeling there for 30 years, probably been there 40 times.....I don't recall ever hearing about an attack there before.

There have been 2 shark attacks right off the point, at Lovers Point, in Monterey Bay. Hadn't had one in 50 years. First strike was a confirmed Great White. Second one just happened so it hasn't been determined yet. But I'll bet it was the same shark. They ought to make a movie.

While we have far more attacks in FL than you do out there, luckily most of ours are smaller sharks leading to non fatal attacks.

Those big freakin great whites....

The Glov has been a long time fixture (member) of the old and current McAndrew boards......
Please keep Glov's memory alive. Thank you siblings.

Australian fisherman Arnold Pointer rescued a white shark (female) from death two years ago, releasing it from the net.

She has a problem today: she follows him everywhere.

It’s hard to get rid of a 17-foot shark when great white sharks are a protected species, but Arnold and “Cindy” have developed a mutual affection.

Arnold says: “When I stop the boat she comes to me, turns on one side and lets me pet her, she grunts, squints and flaps her fins happily. ”❤️
