The bowl system is broken. This has been discussed ad nauseum. Expand the playoff. Leach is an advocate of this, so why is he complaining about bowl opt-outs? He knows why they are opting out. Stop holding on to old antiquated practices and be an agent of change for the future.
COVID testing protocols are broken, but it is also exposing just how broken the bowl system is. It's also exposing who is doing what has to be done to win in this era (Saban) and who isn't (basically everybody else). Of course, it's easy when you're motivated by the playoff. But even Smart almost messed this up. Nobody else cares.
We all basically agreed that the bowls were glorified exhibitions. If you don't see that, you're just ignoring reality. So why is everybody mad when the result is exactly what we expected?
Either way, MSU will be fine. Again, nobody will care about this game in a couple of days except some of our older out-of-touch fans. The good thing is that now we know exactly where our potential problems will be next year and have a fighting chance of rectifying them. I really wish we would get the expansion done, then we likely don't have opt-outs anymore. But as long as Leach is criticizing them, there is a ceiling on the recruits we will get. We won't sign the 5 star 3-year player anymore, unless they are Simmons type guys who just love MSU. Of course, those were the only ones we signed before so it likely doesn't change much.
