If they want more teams bowl eligible, they better take it off table. SEC will eat each other up. I am guessing 3-6 in SEC is do able.

I think the key words there are “ in 2024.” At some point, ESPN will add more money to the table & we’ll go to 9 games.

Remember that the SEC just kinda made up schedules in 2012 and 2013 before settling on a 12-year rotation starting in 2024. I think we'll see the same thing. A transitional year or 2 and then the 9-game schedule with 3 permanent opponents starting in 2025 or 2026.

This way, Tennessee-Alabama and the other important rivalries that won't make the cut in a 1-permanent-only system will get played in the transitional year(s) but we don't go to 9 right away.

I think they probably just drop the 6-6 requirement pretty soon and let whoever go to a bowl that wants to, especially with all the opt-outs (including full team opt-outs anyway).

Even better would be to just drop bowl games and all postseason altogether other than the playoffs, but expand the regular season by a game. You could still do regular season neutral site games in the bowl stadiums if there's a market for it, and if there's not, then who cares?

Yeah. 8 games or 9, I think you can bet the house Bama-Tennessee, Texas-A&M and Georgia-Auburn will be played in 2024.
