straight from Byrnes mouth. Coaching search consists of cohen, raffo, shoewalter, and 2 other unnamed people. My guess is casey and maybe odonnell or Corbin. That's the official shortlist. also, the scoreboard situation is much in the works. Supposedley we are close to building one of the largest in the nation. It would be on the southside endzone.

But nice to see they'll put it in a place that doesn't stare straight into the sun.

its mcdonnell. riding out the storm on the phone waiting for florabama will do that. Its supposed to be 46 ft tall which is pretty big. They don't need a whole lot more $to make it the biggest. Or so they claim.

on it gives me an uneasy feeling (or maybe that's the hamburger chased with Jim Beam, can't be sure). I'll say this, O'Connor has gone to the top of my wish list. After seeing him interviewed and looking at his accomplishments, I don't see anyone being a better candidate. Some may be as good, but it would be difficult to find someone significantly better. He would be my pick.

Agreed. I took the time to watch his squad play UNC Wednesday night and liked the way they played.

Well I hope you are correct in the choices, but have a hard time believing Greg would come out and just tell anyone right now.. especially with Cohen going to be playing for a while and I'm guessing the other 2 unknown would also.

*Side point - I'm not so high on McDonnell this early in his career. Too much of a chance this early in his coaching career.. one year and one cws and he is qualified?

Back to the other topic though, the scoreboard for football. I love to hear we are going to break away from the typical mentality of being the last to do things and playing it safe. 46 feet high is a big deal, I'm just wondering how they are going to situate it on top of the M-club (which I had always been told could not support any kind of additional weight?)

To compare..the largest in the nation in collegiate athletics is "GodzillaTron" at Texas at 55 x 134
Minnesota is going to have the 2nd largest when the oncampus TCF Bank Stadium opens, 48 x 108

Those are based upon total video square footage, and being HD.
As of right now Auburn is the only SEC school with an HD scoreboard and it is 30 x 74

I mean, stranger things have happened, but why would someone call up the AD out of the blue at Florabama? And, if Byrne would tell them that Cohen, Showalter, and Raffo were the candidates, why wouldn't he just go ahead and tell them the two mystery candidates?

We can all assume Raffo is a candidate, simply because he interviewed on Tuesday. I sincerely hope that was a courtesy interview, but unfortunately the reality is that is probably me just trying to cope with the current situation.

What has he done? He had the number seed in the nation and couldn't get out of his regional. He also had the best pitcher in the nation at the time.

First off, learn to reply correctly.
2nd..by proclaiming that raffo will be the man, you confirm what many of us already suspected that you are one of the sissy little baseball players, who are curled up in the corner sucking their thumbs being coddled by polk scared that some mean man will get the head coaching job and "yell and curse" and be ""unclassy"" instead of keeping with the Polk program..and leading you to threaten Greg Bryne with your transfer in what you think is a Power play.

If Raffo is selected head coach it will show me not a damn thing has changed, and likely never will. But that won't be the case I believe, Greg is too much of a progressive and forward thinker for such complacency. So if you don't want what is best for the MSU BASEBALL PROGRAM... ---not the Ron Polk Legacy Program -- then prepare to be disappointed, as Tommy Raffo will not be the next baseball coach at MSU.

Here's a short blurb from Corbin's bio that speaks loudly (also, he's one hell of an intense recruiter).

"in five seasons at Vanderbilt, Tim Corbin has turned Vanderbilt into one of the national powers of college baseball. In 2007, Corbin guided the Commodores to their best season ever, finishing with a school record 54 wins. The team also achieved a No. 1 national ranking for the first time in school history and held that honor for 13 of 15 weeks during the regular season."

The latest I read or heard was that it will probably not be on the M Club building for structural reasons. Maybe it's going to be too big to go on the building and will have to be free standing? I can't picture that, but I like the thought that it will be a really big screen.

I doubt it will be McDonnell. If he goes anywhere, which I doubt, it will be Auburn.

earlier this week...didn't come from Byrne, but he would have to keep this guy informed of any lists.

This is from Monday..........

<div> Rumor D'jour.....there are 6-7 canidates for the job </div> <div> on MSU's list. The top 2 choices are Corbin & Cohen...and everyone but KB21 will be glad to know that Raffo is not on the short list.
That's not to say he won't be given an interview, to appease some people(Polk), but I think he realizes what's happening.

...over on www.BulldawgJunction.com KB21 tried to convince people that Tommy was a serious candidate. I pointed out to him that there is a such a thing as an "obligatory interview," to be politically correct. I would be VERY disappointed in Greg Byrne were he to choose Raffo. There are just too many statistics which point out that he has NOT been a good hitting coach.

Raffo will only get the job if no other legitimate candidate will accept it. By that, I mean the terms of the contract.

I didn't mean no one would want it.

we would have already come out and said it. I do not think that Tommy Raffo will be the head coach of the Mississippi State baseball team.
