Yep from my experiences, those type of remarks are much more likely in the Midwest and north east specifically.

When the announcement came out we were playing in the Peach Bowl, I spent half a second thinking about going. Figured flights into ATL would be plentiful and have friends in the area to stay with. And I've never been to a bowl game. But just had no confidence as to what kind of Penn State team would show up. So glad I decided not to go.
